“Nice Business Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Great Hotel with nice and comfortable rooms right in the heart of Lucerne. I can recommend the stay as the staff is friendly, the rooms nice and the breakfast buffet very tasty.
The hotel is located only minutes from the old town of lucerne and there are some nice bars and restaurants close by.

Hospitality must be a Swiss specialty, because the staff here were so very kind, friendly and helpful in every way. The room we had was very quiet and extremely comfortable, with its down comforters and typically spotless housekeeping. We regretfully only stayed one night as we were continuing on to the south of Switzerland. Lucerne is an amazing city and we hope to get back to explore more. Don't miss the Old Town Lucerne, a short walk away from the more modern part of the city.

Straight off the bat, the hotel is not easy to find. The parking and entry is not on Pilatusstrasse, you actually need to turn into Sempacherstrasse (a one-way street) and it’s immediately on your right.

Our check-in was handled very well by the friendly man at reception. He gave us a map and showed us how to get everywhere which was handy. We chose overnight parking (CHF5 for on-street parking from 1800hrs-1100hrs).

The room was small, but not tiny - the bed was MASSIVE, and was sooooo comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud! The room was quiet (we were at the end of the hall and away from elevators), and was very comfortable. The hotel itself is centrally located. The lake is less than 5 minutes walk and all the great restaurants are within a 10-minute walk.

My only gripe about the hotel (which I passed on to reception) was that the shower did not have a closing door, so the water leaked all over the floor. This was a pain, but did not detract from the stay.

All in all, a great stay. It’s expensive, just as everything in Switzerland is, but probably good value for money (last time I stayed in Lucerne I paid about the same and got a very small, unacceptable room in another hotel). I would stay at Renaissance again.

Room Tip: End of the hall, away from elevator.

Location, location and location. This hotel is just 3-5 mins walk from Lucerne train station. Neighbourhood was also safe.

Rooms are on the smaller size. However, the room is very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The design of the room is also very pleasant to the eye, and the room has a warm and comfortable feel. We stayed 3 nights, and each night we had a good rest.

The toilet was too small. The WC was too close to the basin (almost side & side). Nevertheless, it was clean.

Breakfast area was decorated in deep red, probably it operates a restaurant at night. The breakfast choices were pretty good. There's hot items such as scrambled eggs. The coffee was very satisfying.

Will stay here again if I visit Lucerne.

Stayed here for three nights using my Marriott rewards points! The room was smaller than expected in a 4 star hotel, despite the free upgrade, maybe this is the European standard and I am more used to the US Marriott rooms. Otherwise everything you needed, including a good location, 5 mins to the railway station, which is an easy straight walk and because it's Switzerland not a dodgy area. Also 5 mins to the lake and a few more to the old town area and in the other direction to two cinemas. Parking is not ideal and costs 20 CHF each 24 hours, and as there is no need to use a car when staying in this hotel a little annoying, but you have a very central location. The Pilatus road is quite noisy, but we were on the 5th floor so with windows closed we could sleep OK. Not sure what it would be like in the summer. Breakfast was good, the minimum you would expect for a 4 star hotel, but a slightly cramped presentation. There is a very good small cafe round the corner that serves breakfast for half the price if you don't want to eat much, Taburettli. The bed was great, bathroom small but very modern but with no extractor fan :-(. Hairdryer and toiletries are provided but no full length mirror. One strange thing at 8.30 on Sunday morning a knock on the door to see if they could do the room, luckily we were awake because we had booked a boat trip on the lake, I found this way too early for a Sunday otherwise! We did not try the restaurant on the ground floor. The staff were helpful, friendly and polite. All in all a great stay in a lovely city.

Dear guest

Warm greetings to Böblingen. We thank you for staying with us and are glad to learn that you enjoyed your stay in Lucerne.

We also thank you for you constructive feedback regarding the parking situation, the breakfast buffet as well as our housekeeping. The parking situation is unfortunately not something we could change, it is the "price" for our down-town location. The breakfast presentation and the housekeeping training, however, is definitely something we want to work on. Feedbacks like yours help us to improve.

Looking forward to your next visit we remain with our best regards

We stayed here in December for 2 nights to soak up a little Christmas spirit and were initially impressed by the look of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff at reception. Unfortunately, whatever the hotel was like with regards to facilities was overshadowed by our inability to sleep at night due to the noise from outside. Both nights sleep were constantly interrupted by the 'revellers' in the streets outside, right through to as late as 5am on one of the nights. It wasn't just general hubbub noise, it was screaming and shouting and we were up on the fifth floor.!

I understand that this may be a difficult problem for the hotel to resolve and if you are able to sleep with your windows tightly closed it may not be an issue but it blighted our whole stay and left all four of us tired throughout the day.

Otherwise the hotel is 5 minutes from the main station and handy for the old town across the river - the staff were also pleasant and helpful which is why I've given three stars. If you have an inside room (if they exist) it may not be a problem but we really did suffer I'm afraid.

The Renaissance Lucerne is a great place to stay. Our room was quite spacious, had english tv channels, a very comfy bed and a large bathroom. It also had a little balcony but I think we just got lucky there. It's easy to get to from the train station and is close/an easy walk to sights in town like the Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument. It's also easy to get up to Mount Pilatus especially with the helpful staff at reception giving directions on a local map. Breakfast is also very good and Ekaterina was very friendly to us, got us off to a good start to a great day.
