We booked through hotel.de and there was no problem with our booking and we were made to feel welcome when we arrived. We thought the location was good, very near the free bus to the ski slopes and close to bars and restaurants but the hotel itself is run down and we nicknamed the manager Peter, the Swiss Basil Fawlty. There is on-site parking for around 4 cars depending on the consideration of the other people parking. There is a ski-locker too. The furnishings are extremely eclectic. Whilst we were there Peter, had let his staff have the week off so he was doing everything including watering down the orange juice, it became distinctly less strong as the week went on! The furniture was dated and damaged in the rooms and the floor boards were very creaky. The bed mattress was comfortable which is what counts when you are skiing. It was good value but there was an obvious lack of investment.

If you're looking for a basic place to stay for a skiing break then this could fit the bill. However it's a bit rought around the edges - the place looks like it's not been touched in 30 years, especially the bathrooms! The whole place could do with a bit of a makeover, however it is clean and functional.

The manager is an odd character who's mood can be tricky to predict. One minute he's pleasant and chatty, the next he's berating you for some minor misdemeanor (like standing in the lift too long..?)

Bar never seemed to be open, and when it was there was no one to serve a drink. The manager had "no time" for this when asked - there is a great bar across the road though (blackout bar I think).

Overall an adequate place for a short ski break, but let down by it's managers mood swings.

We booked a reservation with hotel through hotel.de. But when we arrived in Engelberg, Switzerland, the Hotel Hoheneck doors were locked and no one answered. As time went by, we became concerned and decided to find lodging elsewhere. Then we went on-line and cancelled our Hotel Hoheneck reservation, well within the time limits. You're supposed to be able to cancel up to 6:00 pm the day of arrival without charge. We cancelled at 2:48 p.m. And then on Sep 2, a charge showed up on our credit card for two nights stay!!!

Six weeks later we are still trying to get a response out of the hotel on this issue, even though we have the confirmation of cancellation, as well as email correspondence with hotel.de. The booking organization tells us they can't get a statement or response from the hotel about this either.

Recommendation: look elsewhere. We stayed at the Hotel Waldegg instead, and it was wonderful!!
