“cheap but good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

I visited this hotel when i visited Switzerland. This is a small little town in the Alps. The scenery is breath taking and you can also go up in a cable car to Mount Tittlist which is 10000ft above sea level. The town has a atmosphere of its own and in the Summer the houses are beautifully decorated with their colourful flower boxes. There is also a monastary which you can visit and they produce cheese there which you can taste and buy and also see how it is made.
The hotel is actually a very good place to stay as it is just across from the train station. To get to Engelberg you have to travel with two trains. The last train is a real steam train as it is very steap to get to Engelberg so a steam train works the best. The scenery travelling to Engelberg is just amazing. The hotel is clean and i found the people very friendly and helpful and best of all the price is very reasonable. The rooms are standard rooms ,nothing fancy but very comfortable and clean..For me who likes to travel and go places and explore beyond my base it was really good and a welcome place in the evening to come home to to sleep.
At night the town is lit up my many lights and it looks like fairyland.
Definately a place i will go back to and highly recommended to anyone visiting Switzerland.

The exterior outside of the hotel might appear a bit old - and the entrance doors a bit shabby - but the interior rooms are newly renovated and great. Like other reviewers have said, there is a beautiful view of the Swiss Alps. It is centrally located in terms of Engelberg (close to everything in the small town) but half an hour driving from Lucerne. We stayed in a room called "The New Standard" type.

Love the light dimming/brightness controls on the lights + Free wifi in the rooms and hotel, which is great. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable - the bathroom is basically open-area; sink and bed have no door in between them. One sliding door is used for both the toilet and the shower area - which means both technically can't be used at the same time (although if you have 2 people, why does it matter?)

Downsides: you can see other people's rooms in full if you walk out on to the balcony and lean over (why would you do that though I don't know, but you may want to close your curtains).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view of the Alps

Dear Dorion
Thank you for your feedback.
You're absolutely right, our front is really not very appealing. On our renovations- and investment list is the facade at second last place. Before we want to renew anything else and then shine with a new exterior.
For me, the light settings in the room are also an important detail, since light has a decisive influence on mood. Nice that we agree here. For an open bath area, we decided of style reasons - we wanted the bathroom as a part of the room and not hide in a box. And the sliding door, which closes either toilet or shower I find funny and clever detail cause both must be closed in a double room ever.
Incidentally, each of our rooms has a beautiful view of the mountains.
Thanks again for your impressions see you soon, Sina Filliger

Lovely hotel with a breathtaking view. The room decor was excellent, beds were comfortable and wash area spacious. Charmed by the board which accomodated mutiple switches type. Mt Titlis was just a walking distance away and good sovenir shops around. Staff was distant not very friendly.

Hello Uma
Thank you for your rating. We are delighted that our rooms and their equipment have met your taste. We are also happy and proud to work with such a good product can be. This comes the beautiful nature that surrounds our home and Engelberg. Unfortunately you have not convinced our staff, we apologize for that and will continue to try to improve it.
Thanks again for your praise as well as your criticism, with best regards

Our stay was good. Fresh & newly done up rooms. Avoid the older one's. Hotel situated at main locotion oppossite to engelberg railway station & close down to Mt Titlis. Free wifi in the rooms. Hotel staff not supportive & helpful. Could not provide even hot drinking water. Receptionist Ms.Bianca quite rude in her conversation at many a times with many guests.

Room Tip: New Rooms with balcony & bathtub on a higher floor are recommended.

Dear Guest
Nice that you liked our house. We are also very happy about the successful reconstruction of the south wing. Unfortunately you are not satisfied with our service and our employees. Of course we are always keen to meet all needs and desires of our guests and make sure a qualified staff. Unfortunately, we underestimated the departure of your tour group on the questions arising, desires and interests rather webspace provided for employees. Therefore could not all wishes are fulfilled and not all questions are answered in detail. We hope you have enjoyed in spite of all their travel through Switzerland, and perhaps the next time you bring a little more time. Best regards, Sina Filliger

We spent the Fasnacht Carnival WE in Engelberg. We got the newly renovated rooms. It was very nicely done with much taste and good quality furniture. We took half board in the evening costing 35Chf per adult. For the 4 years old kid it was free. Food was very good for the price. A bottle of water costs 10Chf though. The hotel is right next to the train station and the are 5 or 6 buses that drive from in front of the hotel to the Ski lifts. The welcome and service in general was very friendly and nice. The lobby has a very nice atmosphere with the cheminey and the jazz music. There are plenty of newspapers and magasines, the furniture is comfortable and cosy, perfect setting to relax and have a cup of coffee or tea. Beakfast was nice, although a bit low in choice for such a hotel. For instance you won't be offered a 3 minutes egg, something that is almost impossible in Switzerland! Things to be improved maybe is 1) A wellness or sauna place and 2) A play room for kids.

We stayed while skiing. This hotel is very central, right by the railway station. This means it is very convenient for the ski buses to all the lifts: the bus stop is right outside the boot room. The hotel is approximately half renovated, with a mixture of modern rooms and older rooms (they are booked separately and priced differently). We stayed in one of the older rooms which was very large, clean, with a good bathroom and comfortable beds, though the decor was faded. The only caveat is that the older rooms are above a very popular bar that stays open late, so it would be advisable to stay in the newer rooms at the other end of the hotel if hearing music bothers you. If you will be in the bar until late, the older rooms are fine and good value! Most importantly, the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

i stay there in the last week of october for one night, and feels very comfortable, the staff at the reception was friendly and helpfull, gave me instructions about bus and about the pubs nearby and far away on the hill, the location was perfact and i can see snow and fog right from my room balcony.
And on the day the breakfast was very nice and enjoyable,as i tastes different kind of home made jams, breads, jucies, sugerfree fruits, almost everything is their, and i called a staff member and she comes to perpare a coffee for me,and realy enjoyed everything..and seems nothing to bad there, just on thing i paid for internet access in lobby, becoz i don`t ask or even told by male staff member that there is wifi which is free,so i would have use it,i thinks this is fault both of us.
and when i buy train tickets back to luzern ,and the time of train is around 3`o`clock,so go to the reception for stay longer untill the time, then pleased by the girl staff member and give permission.that was very helpfull either.

i recommend this hotel to all.
thanks to all,may stay there again if i get time again, bye

In den neuen Zimmern wird die Belle Epoque mit modernen Elementen kombiniert, teilweise sogar neu interpretiert.
