“Everything we expected and even better!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

We spent one week in Engelberg March 2012 at Ski Lodge. This was a very special week for us, since we celebrated our wedding. We spent the week at Ski Lodge together with our family and friends. We would highly recommend this hotel, the atmosphere, the professional hosts, excellent service and tremendous dinners. All this together made our ski-wedding-week better than we could ever dream of.

We had a half board package, including breakfast and skiers dinner. The breakfast was exactly what you needed for a day on the mountain, porridge, eggs, home made bread, local cheeses and even freshly pressed orange juice.

In the evening a three-course dinner was served, every night something new and always to a very high quality level. Just the served food in the restaurant is worth a visit to Ski Lodge.

Most of our wedding guests were skiing most of the days during the week but even those not cruising down the slops enjoyed the stay at Ski Lodge. The hotel has a perfect location in the small village and the rooms have a cosy feel and are well cleaned every day.

We hope to come back soon again!!!

The hotel is in my opinion perfect if you are in the Alps for skiing. The whole atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, very service minded staff and the guests have one thing in common, they are alla here for the mountains. The restaurant has great food, service and atmosphere. The standard of the rooms is far from luxury. However, our room was clean, functional and with enough space for two adults. We had some light bulbs that had to be changed, this was however done directly, and like everything else in this hotel, with a smile. The bar is a perfect place to unwind after a day of skiing and the bar snack as well as the selection of drinks are great. We will come back and I truly recommend this hotel.

Thank you Frontrow33, we always try our best to do everything with a smile :-)

I've forwarded your kind words to the staff, and hope to see you back here some other time. We are also rebuilding the bar area in October, so there'll be some news next time you visit!

Best wishes from Engelberg and keep you fingers crossed for another snow-record-breaking winter season!

This hotel is centrally located in this quaint villagey town' of Engelberg, close to the train station. We were staying for 1 night in Engelberg, I recommended the Hotel to my friend after reading some of the reviews here.
We were able to check into our room early, it was clean, tidy and had quite funky decor;ski's crossed over the bed, red carpet and lamp shades. Bathroom very clean also.
After an afternoon out where they had been quite rapid snow fall, we were looking forward to coming back and resting for a while till later in the evening. Rest we did for a half an hour period untill the banging and jumping loudness began from the room above which carried on till into the late evening. Enough was enough so we decided to inform the Hotel Reception to the carry on above, it sounded vividly like a herd of Elephants, even with the Televison/Radio on it was louder.
There was no on in reception to be seen, my friend headed to the Bar and then returned back to reception after waiting another 10mins a guy arrived back. We informed him of the noise above and said that it was unaccepatable, we'd like to be moved or be given another solution. He said he would take the details of the Room and that we would be contacted by his Manager, he would Telephone us.
My friend relayed this on his return to the room...first problem was that there was no Telephone in the room ! No Manager contacted us either.. Noise continued.. There is not much escape when your in a situtation like that, outside it was snowing no where to go.

Breakfast was fine, what you would expect. There were two females working in the Breakfast room, I can describe the atmosphere as quite cold and unfriendly.. it was quite a shocker, as we had not encountered service like this in our previous days in Switzerland.

On Checking out we queried with the reception man if the manager was aware of our compaint, he said that there was nothing logged there..we made clear to him that we were unhappy with the shambolic, poor service that we had encountered at the Hotel..if for what ever reason there was noise happening above we should have been informed to it when we checked in or during .. To have to have paid 220CHF for the experience, was dismal !
I can definately confirm that I will not be returning to this hotel, after this rubbish experience, it could have been rectified, I dont believe any of the staff cared enough to do it.

Room Tip: Avoid room 25, creaky boards above and below you.

Dear Lily,

I sincerely believe that a hotel should be judged on the way it handles complaints, and we have clearly failed here. First of all, I am deeply sorry for your experience. Secondly, I truly understand that you flamed us here on Tripadvisor. I would have done exactly the same - and it triggers us to try even harder. So thank you for taking the time to review us.

When we received your review, we immediately called a management meeting to make sure this does not happen again. Up until now, we have:

- Changed the routines at breakfast. "Cold and unfriendly" is rather the opposite to what we are aiming for.
- Improved the routines for complaint handling and reporting to make it faster and more efficient.
- Had our janitor look into your rooms to look over the sound proofing.

Again, I'm deeply sorry for your experience. Due to certain factors we have now looked into, your complaint never reached me during your stay. I really hope I can compensate you for this, and I truly hope you can give us a second chance. Please contact me directly at matilda.r@skilodgeengelberg.com if you would like to discuss this further.

Simply put, a great hotel experience. What made Ski Lodge Engelberg special was the knowledgable and friendly staff. The rooms are neat, clean, and quiet. Downstairs there was a nice bar and a world class restaurant which offered a new tasty three course meal every night. In the bar they have managed to create an atmosphere where you feel right at home and is the optimal spot for the after ski or a beer/drink before and after dinner. I was down there for new years with friends and we spent almost every evening in the bar/lounge hanging out or playing card games.

The staff seemed to all be very good skiiers who could guide you on where to ski and recommended the proper stores to rent or buy gear. If you are going to Engelberg, I would highly recommend this place. It is not super cheap but my experience in Engelberg was so enhanced by my stay and the staffs knowledge and the wonderful atmosphere makes it extremely valuable!

Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words.

Local knowledge is a key ingredient in a good holiday, and we always make sure that we are up to date on where to eat the best schnitzel, get your boots fixed or book heli-skiing. Glad you noticed :)

I'll make sure that the whole staff hears this! Right now it's snowing here again after a week of sunshine. We hope to welcome you back some other time, summer or winter.

Simple furnishings brought alive by the best team of staff I have encountered worldwide and that includes many ridiculously priced 5 star resorts over the years. Rooms are basic and simple but great beds. The hotel is metres from the train station and very central in the town. Their are 3 things that make this hotel great. The staff are great - real people who can't do enough for you. The atmosphere is relaxed and when the bar fills the atmosphere is jumping. Lastly the food in the evenings is Michelin star - well done Jonas and the team. Simply the best food I think I have had in a long time - anywhere. Thank you specially to Simon, Nina and linecka - but that's not fair really - thank you to the whole team. So use this hotel if you want a great time with great people, superb food and simple rooms are fine. Don't use it if you are pretentious 1 %er and you can't shake yourself out of it.

Thank you, you're almost making us blush :)

I think you've nailed the essence of our Lodge in your review. We want to be a social hub where different people can meet, ski and enjoy themselves. For some, it could mean a beer in the sun outside after skiing and for others a unique bottle of wine from a small Ticino vineyard and a 5-course menu from Jonas' kitchen.

We hope to have you here again some time - welcome back!

Our family's stay in Engelberg was fantastic not only because of the beauty of this quant village set amongst the mountains with great skiing conditions but also because of this charming hotel with it's warm and friendly team of staff who were always welcoming and helpful.

The Ski Lodge is a fusion of traditional and contemporary decor with comfortable bedding and furnishings.

The rooms are reasonably spacious and well serviced. The room in which we stayed in was in a quiet part of the hotel and had an amazing view of the mountains, a balcony and comfortably accommodated the three of us which included our twenty one year old daughter.

Whilst we didn't dine in for our evening meals because we enjoyed to go out of an evening, the breakfasts included a variety of cereals, breads, croissants, cold meats and cheeses, eggs, juices and fruit.

There is a bar, sitting area and library and not forgetting the sauna and spa which I might add was used during our stay by some very brave or perhaps intoxicated individuals.

The location of the Ski Lodge is a "stone throw" from the railway station and bus stop for both Brunni and Titlis which made it perfect for our arrival with a significant amount of luggage, particularly as it was snowing. The easy access to the bus stop was significant when walking with ski and snow board equipment and attire...believe me those ski boots aren't the most comfortable for walking distances. It's location is close to all amenities including restaurants and shops.

We fell in love with Engelberg and the Ski Lodge.....so much so that our daughter is "dreaming" of returning to work there.......

Room Tip: We stayed in room sixty three.

A nice hotel with a super location in the village. The afterski was very popular but there were never any seat available to join the party. After some days standing with a beer outside I discovered why it was so crowded and no place to sit on for a hotel guest. The staff "free of duty" together with their friends working on other hotels in the village occupied the chairs outside in the sun. The same situation occured later in the evening in the bar.
This is a hotel were the paying guest comes in second hand and the young and trendy staff goes first. Now I understand the old swedish rule that staff free-off-duty is not welcome as guest on their own workplace.

Hi Peo,

First of all, thank you very much for your response and taking the time to review us after your stay.

I'm sorry to hear that your weren't completely satisfied with your stay - our guests are of course, at all time, our top priority.

Regarding the crowded après: Our aim with Ski Lodge is to create a social hub and meeting point in the village. That means that our bar, après and restaurant cater to everyone - external guests as well - and is a popular spot for young and old Engelbergers, visitors and regulars - either for a 5-course dinner or just a Glühwein on the terrace.

That said, I've just spoken with all the team leaders about you review here to make sure this situation won't occur again. We cannot always guarantee a seat on the terrace at the après in March - but it will of course not be occupied by any of the Ski Lodge staff.

Have a great winter, we are enjoying amazing conditions after an total of 367 cm snowfall in December.
