“I strongly agree with all the positive review comments made about this hotel and its staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2010

Following my first stay at the Hotel Admiral Geneva, I strongly agree with all the positive review comments made about this hotel and its staff. Just as I was to leave, snow closed Geneva and many UK airports. The manager, Jamal, rescued us from sleeping at the airport by keeping our rooms on. At a time when many hotels capitalised on traveller’s misfortunes by increasing room rates by two or three times, Jamal actually gave us a discount for the extra days even though people were constantly phoning for rooms! I can’t remember when I have experience such excellent customer service.
Admiral operates a prepay policy. Even though people did not show, due to the snow, the hotel held the rooms in case of late arrival. If you are not coming, have the courtesy to tell the hotel otherwise you will be charged for the held room.
The rooms are comfortable, you can make hot drinks in them, there is a minibar and in the mornings a substantive breakfast is served downstairs, including egg and bacon.
If you want a hotel in Geneva that is value for money, serves a good breakfast, is comfortable, has friendly staff and, for good transport links, is close to the railway station then book-in at the Admiral.

Despite only having come to stay one night for a wedding, I felt most welcome. The hotel is small, charming, very clean and centrally located. Definitely make sure to try the breakfast buffet, it'll be well worth it! The hotel director was extremely helpful throughout even prior to arrival as far as special arrangements (such as early check-in) were concerned.
I'd go back anytime!

I chose the hotel based on the reviews here and I can agree with most of them. The hotel is central and convenient for the station and sights. It is good value for Geneva. The location isn't a big problem if you are broad-minded.
However be aware that if you book a twin room, the hotel does not guarantee you will get this. I was travelling with my daughter and we had to share a bed! I was offered another room at checkin but would have had to pay for this room which would have made the trip very expensive.

The Monopol is a hidden gem in the busy city of Geneva. Although it's on a backstreet with some adult shops, the hotel is easy to reach and very neat and clean. The elevator is a bit small (2 persons, or 1 + suitcases) but the room is large enough and quite nicely furnished. Service is good, only the breakfast buffet is a bit small and you need to navigate carefully between the tables and other guests. Like all hotels in Geneva, it's not a cheap place to stay.

We stayed at the Admiral for two nights at the end of October. They let us leave our luggage as we arrived early. The room was very good. It was small, but had a good TV, storage, minibar and was very clean. The only slight downside was that the ceiling fan made a knocking noise but this does not really detract from the quality of the hotel. The breakfast was excellent and had plenty of choice. The location of the hotel was excellent, just five minutes walk from Gare Cornavin and the bars and shops around there. We walked into the old town in about 15 minutes. Although the hotel is in the red light district, this was not intrusive at all and there were many families walking around even late at night. Overall, we would stay again at this hotel. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

stayed here for a weekend on my trip to geneva..after reading the reviews on the website, made my mind to book here..it was totally value for money for such an expensive city...its the best among the no frills class

positives:

1) Extremely helpful and cooperative staff- we landed in the morning at aound 10 AM, but they still allowed us to check in, as luckily there was a room available..we had booked directly from the admiral website.

2) cosy decent sized room- we stayed on the first floor, and there was no problem of noise etc. at night..maybe because it was quite cold also outside, so kept the windows shut...the room has all the basic amenities, including a very nice fridge bar, and a decent sized toilet...felt completely at home...also it was very clean.

3) the buffet breakfast was included in the package, and it was just wonderful..had eggs, toast, juice, croissant, fruits, bacon, pastries and other sweets...was so full that I did not eat for the next 7 hours...

4) the location of the hotel is in the red light district..howver, apart from the shop next door, there is nothing wrong with the area...it is 5 mins from the lake, and 15 min walk from the fountain..also we retuirned at arnd 1 AM, and felt perfectly safe...

5) there are two computers in the hotel foir, with free internet..it was very convenient as we used it a lot, to find about local activities..took the lovely 1 hour lake cruise from mont blanc close to the hotel for 15 euros...you get a discount after showing the free geneva travel card which the reception gives you at check in...also it entitles you to free river taxi and trams..which were both lots of fun

negatives

the only negative i can think of is that the hotel is next to the sex shop.which is more amusing to see, rather than affecting anybody...so i feel the hotel is more perfect for couples and business people, rather than families with children

Great Location. Five minutes walk from Geneva rail station in one direction and Lake Geneva in the other. The airport rail station is the next stop. The staff had problems describing the location, but it's very easy. From Geneva Rail Station cross the busy road and turn left until you come to Rue des Alps. Turn right and Rue Pellegrino Rossi is the ?3rd on the left. It's expensive from a UK point of view, but Swtzerland is very expensive and compared with other Geneva hotels, it offers very good value for money. Comfortable bed and pillows and spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast with bacon and omelett and a wide range of cereals, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, bread and sweet rolls. The staff were friendly and spoke good English and there was free Wi-fi - there's a computer in the lounge if you don't have a laptop.

The only negative was that it was in the red light street (other reviews have mentioned a red light district, but as far as we could see it was just this street and the surrounding streets seemed perfectly respectable) and the prostitutes and male revellers were noisy, so we had interrupted sleep until 0500 when the police sirens seemed to break it up. Take ear plugs or ask for a room at the back of the hotel! No doubt this is why the hotel is so well priced.

Restaurants are also hideously expensive, but we found one nearby that did offer a slightly less expensive menu. The restaurant Casanova (don't be put off by the name) is across the road from Lake Geneva (from the hotel head towards the lake and turn right at the lake road and it's a couple of hundred yards). Even so, the excellent house white was £30 and we found the same wine in Sainsburys for £6.76.
