This hotel had the atmosphere, service and appearance of a small budget hotel, even though they price and market themselves as a 3-star hotel. But I would put it at the top end of budget-hotel category, because the room seemed newly-renovated and they offered more amenities than do most other budget hotels.
Good - Convenient location between the station and the lake (5 min walk from either) right off Rue des Alpes; we didn't feel affected by the sex establishments nearby at all. Room appeared newly-renovated, including sparkling bathroom and brand-new air conditioner. Free wireless internet access in room, if you bring a laptop. Breakfast buffet was great with lots of yummy food choices.
Bad - Housekeeping was subpar; shower curtain smelled with lots of mildew stain; in-room safe missing batteries; bed mattress cover was removed by the housekeeper after our first night and left tossed above the dusty top of the closet. Couple of the front-desk staff were rather unfriendly.
I paid about $150 USD per night for a double room. Rather expensive for a budget hotel. But this is Geneva (where prices run high) and I believe there are many standard hotels in town that offer less amenities and shabbier rooms. Plus, Admiral's location is convenient. So we don't regret having stayed here and would consider staying there again.
