“Nice Ambiance, Mediocre Food, Appalling Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

My husband and I were in the same group as the previous poster. The good is that the place is in a nice little hamlet of Grotte. Inside was tastefully decorated and the terrace was pleasant, especially considering it was pretty close to Cornavin.

The waiter started out being friendly. Having traveled extensively throughout Italy, the menu is not what I would consider authentic. My tuna tartare (not authentically Italian) arrived as glob of tartare wth an awful tuna paste -not a garnish in sigh t. Not even a wedge of lemon or sprig of parsely. Frankly, the tartar at the Geneve Plage restaurant is better presented.
I ordered the lamb which looks nothing like the photo. It was served with overcooked broccoli and rice. The lamb was cooked all the way through despite my request for medium, but was tender and well seasoned.

The two bottles of wine which we ordered were both good, so that is a plus on their side. As we were with friends we managed to have a nice time despite the mediocrity food. Enjoying the wine, atmosphere and company.

Our friends have summarized the debacle regarding the Buy Club vouchers. It was really the most appalling and criminal behavior on the part of a restaurant owner. At one point he actually locked us in the restaurant when we would not give into his extortion. At that point we started to call the police and they finally let us out. The waiter then became irate yelling that "No one asked you to eat here" I advised him that offering BuyClub vouchers was indeed "asking " patrons to eat there. He then started yelling that I should go back to America. Never mind, that neither the waiter nor the owner were Swiss natives.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. My only consolation is that we were out with our husbands. It would have been a very frightening experience were we on a girls' night out.

Based on the unscrupulous behavior of the owner and staff and the food presented, I believe that a lot of these rave views are fake.

“Terrible! Almost had to call police!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

We had a decent dinner and presented our buyclub voichers for some of the payment. The waiter then informed us that they did not take those because they had a problem with buyclub. We asked to see the manager and he was no help, so we saw the owner. The owner said they did not take buyclub ( even though the voucher clearly said they did).

The owner then proceeded to lock us in the restaurant and would not let us out. We threatened to call the police, but eventually the owner relented after talking to buyclub. Could not believe he did this.

All in all a terrible experience. Dont ever go to this place!

“Had a nice dinner here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Last Friday I decided to have a tour in Grottes after a drink at La petite Reine, which is just 5 minutes from this cozy restaurant. Service was just perfect, is very difficult to find a restaurant where food is authentically italian and the waiter is so kind and attentive to details. I am planning to go a tuesday or wednesday because they have "pizza a go go"!!! Definitely a place to remember.

“Nice terrace, good service, but something is missing, sorry”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We dined here on a warm April evening, enticed by the seldom encountered Sicilian cuisine and a Buyclub.ch 100 CHF of food for 50 CHF. The interior is quite stylish and modern, but we opted for the terrace. The appetizers were good and simple and tasty and authentic:
a caponata eggplant dish well seasoned and a fennel soup with excellent grilled small calamari; the Paccheri alla norma pasta was certainly good, but lacking somehow in flavour.
the mains were a turbot dish with Sicilian flavors, the fish frankly not top notch, the sardines with orange were tasty enough but frankly somehow too simple, i e, breaded small sardines on one side of the plate, oranges on the other. (Note: this is not the best sardine season!) The 45 CHF (reasonable for Switzerland) Nero d'avola was just OK; If you do go have something else. The cannoli dessert was ok, the crust too thick and there were only two of them (pardon my sentence structure and don't tell anyone I was a summa c. laude graduate of Yale, please!)
A very calm street in the Grottes neighborhood, quite enjoyable. very professional service.

“Good and authentic Sicilian food in Geneva”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

After being on holidays in Sicily we were pleased to see this restaurant opening in Grottes
We went with a group of friends and we loved the food, it tasted really like when we were in Sicily.

Go if you are looking for fish or pasta dishes with fish and seafood

Their pasta with lobster is a no miss, one of the best we had
