“Central is a good name”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

This hotel is very convenient to shopping, the lake, restaurants, transportation...other than your own car. We neglected to inquire about parking when booking our room. We did find and pay for parking, but it was an unexpected glitch in our plans.
The room was clean and adequate...fine for a night or two.
I would have been happy to have paid more for a bit more breakfast.

Dear Caroline W

As a frequent reviewer we were pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Hotel Central in Geneva.
Free parking is possible in front of the hotel but only from 7 pm to 8 am daily except sundays and Bank holidays. It is true parking is expensive in Geneva but we offer free public transportation during your stay so no real need to bring the car.
Breakfast is continental, simple, served in the comfort of your room and free. There are many bakeries and tearooms in the area if you require more.

Thanks again and safe travels

At the center of high end shopping area and near to bus and tram stops with free pass. We had tough time to find place to buy bottled water after 8pm as everything was closed. But we did not venture towards the old city area.

The room is nice, with kids on bunk beds. Quite expensive but expected for Swiss hotels. A bit dark, and quite old electric plug fixing, so had hard times to plug our electric equipment. Liked the 2 bathrooms they have, very convenient.

There is an aircond and minifridge, quite surprising. All in all, nice place in Geneva central.

Thank you so much for your nice comments and yes we do have a wonderfull location.
As for the opening hours of shops...unfortunately not yet as easy in Switzerland...but for your next stay do not forget that the tap water is very safe and can be drunk. Otherwise we do sell water, soft drinkls and beers at the reception of the hotel.
Take care and hope to see you again here in Hotel central

This is the second time we stayed in this hotel. As a couple with a small kid the 2-bedroom apartments they offer are just ideal. Value for money is unbeatable in a place like Geneva and so is the location in the middle of everything.

Breakfast in the room is nice and the pizzeria just around the corner has good food and service.

We will certainly return.

Room Tip: choose one of their apartments

On the edge of the old town, ten - fifteen minutes walk from the train station, near the lake and a supermarket. A budget hotel with budget size room. Fine for a night or two, staff helpful and friendly. No dinning room, breakfast is served in your room. The strange thing was you entered the room via the bathroom.

Dear Jill L from Dorset
Thank you for taking the time to comment our hotel.
It was good to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our small family hotel.
Yes we decided not to have a breakfast room after a guest survey where the majority felt that they would prefer to be served in the privacy of their room.
Some of the room are from converted apartments, hence the unusual way of sometimes entering the room through the bathroom.
We look forward to welcome you back one day.
With best regards

We got a very nice apartment, fully equipped in walking distance from the train station. The night and morning staff was very friendly and helpful, giving good advices.
The apartment was very spacious, but only partly air-conditioned.
Still, we were sorry we could stay there only one night.

Excellent location downtown Geneva. Hotel on 6th floor. Easy to reach by bus 5 from the airport. Close to the lake. Outdated stuffy room do not give value for money. Continental breakfast in the room only. Friendly reception.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

My fiancée and I spent one night at the Hotel Central in Geneva. This was my second stay there - the first time was during my single days - so if it's a place to come back to once all grown up, it must be good, right?

The hotel is a family-run affair, on the upper floors of an office building within 10 minutes walk of the train station towards the lake. The reception was very personal and down-to-earth - like stepping into someone's home office, you're seated at a classic executive desk as they sign you into the handwritten register. Though your arrival is entirely non-computerised, there is wireless internet throughout.

We had a corner room on the fifth floor, with curved windows leading to a narrow (about a metre and a half) wraparound balcony overlooking a courtyard. Plenty of light streamed through making for lovely mornings; it also warmed the room quickly, but the air conditioner works well. Furnishings were compact and simple though dated, and the bed quite comfortable.

Likely because the structure is an office building, our bathroom facilities were oddly laid out. Off the bedroom was the sink and shower, whereas the toilet was literally a water "closet" off the short hallway from the bedroom to the main door - though normal ceiling height, just about a metre square, with a classic old elevated tank. That said, everything was fine. Just an extra bit of character.

The in-room breakfast was simple: a croissant, a selection of jams and jellies, a glass of juice and a pot of tea or coffee. Filling, but not so much that you spoil your appetite for the rotisserie chicken and other street food at the market across the street. On registration, you make your beverage choices and breakfast delivery time - as you'd expect in ever-punctual Switzerland, it arrives precisely on schedule.

The only real negative to the hotel is unfortunately the flip side of its lovely location overlooking a public courtyard: young Genevan night-owls whooping it up loudly below. The metal shutters on the windows are perfectly effective for light, but less so for noise. Nothing that requires earplugs, but may interfere with light sleepers.

Overall, a fantastic value for pricey Geneva - for the price of one night at the Hotel de la Paix just across the river (reviewed separately), you can stay here for four - and superbly located just off of the city's prime pedestrian-bike-and-tram-only shopping street.

Dear Bob

We were very pleased to read your comments and especially the amount of time you took to put it all on paper...thank you!
Yes we have a very central location but as you say that does sometimes mean that one has to accept a bit of night partying now and again the w/e.
Thank you again and do not hesitate to contact us in the future if we can be of help.
