“Great service and views, but not best value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

Considering that the prices of hotels in Geneva are very high to American average lodging prices, I must say that this hotel is not near the best for your buck. Yes, it has great location to UN and Conference Center but since all hotels provide you with a complimentary local transportation pass, I believe location is not as relevant when there is free/reliable public transportation. Service was at part of a 5 star hotel and the rooms facing the lake are stunning! However, I found the bathroom a bit small and lacking updated amenities (e.g. TV, iron, etc.). My breakfast was included, but I dare to assume that it was not of great value either...while juices were plentiful, as were breads and pastries, other items were scarce.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Lake.

Excellent experience in this strategically located hotel in Geneva for people visiting the UN. the junior suite is modernly decorated and very welcoming. delicacy in the choice of the toilet bag. Just avoid the rush hour in the morning for the check out.

The hotel lobby is pleasant to sit in and conduct your business.Good people watching as most big events happen in the Intercon, so you'll be rubbing shoulders with heads of state or nuclear dissidents. Whatever 'diplomacy' is on that week.
The hotel is not in the center of the city, it's expensive, and the staff can be incredibly snooty. A colleague ordered pizza and their response was: "But madame, this is a 5 star hotel!" Yet, they had no problems overcharging for their terrible food at the hotel bar, where I paid $27 for a small minestrone soup they managed to mess up - veggies in oily beef broth? really?
Hotel bar food is terrible, but the proper restaurant has good fare. Everything in Geneva is expense - I'm sure breathing is somehow taxed, so at the end of the day, I guess the prices are standard.
The gym is nice, as are the rooms, which are spacious. The business center was also employed by snooty staff -- who actually lectured me when a printout was 2 pages, when I said it would be one -- merde de chien! But that's the Swiss way.
And if you get tired of the stuffiness, there's the Chez ma Cousine chicken house just up the street for good hometown food served with no attitude and cheap for switzerland - only $18 a plate!

We are really sorry to hear that you did not completely enjoy your stay with us last January. You may rest assured that your remarks have been of course forwarded to all managers concerned, especially those related to the service in our outlets as well as the food served in the bar.

However, we are pleased that you enjoyed the room layout and the Woods.

This hotel is situated a short walk from United Nations and the CICG (conference center), a great place to stay if you are in Geneva on Business. From the Airport take a 80 min free ticket and you can take the bus number 5 and Intercontinental has its own stop. The frequency is approximately 8-15 minutes. If you arrive by train, get off at Cornavin Station and look for bus stop for number 5 in the direction of the Airport, the ride is about 13-15 mins.

The ambience of the hotel is like any other business hotel but some interesting displays, I loved the world map all done in wood. The rooms are decent size, exceptionally clean and have all the comforts and the bathroom is equipped with everything and wonderful toiletries. Though the place near the toilet is really small. The breakfast is sumptuous and the spread is huge with many hot choices, many types of bread, cheese, yoghurt, fresh fruit juices and the works. I did not eat a meal here since I was away most of the time so I cannot comment on the other meals.

Overall for business it is a wonderful stay, for tourism I would prefer to stay near the lake since this place though accessible is a little away from the other places you would like to visit. Geneva Hotels give a travel card that allows you take public transport so it is not a problem. For the price tag of intercontinental, you will get a nice Geneva Lake View or a hotel in the old city.

This is definitly very well equiped hotel for Geneva.
Very convenient for United Nations deligations and minutes walking distance to the UN.
And 5minute taxi to the Lakeside and luxury shoping 'Route du Rhone'.
Located next to a very nice area of Geneva, with a few minutes walk to 'village' atmosphere of Grand Sacconex and nice resturants. Parks within minute to just relax and breath in the fresh swiss air. Quiet, calm, safe.

Let me start with the worst point. The rooms and room decor are basic but functional.

On to the rest...

The service is excellence.
The public areas, bars and restaurant are stunning.
The little extras you get such as bar nibbles and chocolates are wonderful.

We stayed for 2 nights and left very happy. OK it's expensive, everything is expensive but it's still a great expereince all round.

The location is great 200m to the United Nations, 5 mins on the local bus to Geneva Town Centre (speak to Reception they will give you a bus ticket for the duration of your stay).

Our room also had a great view of Geneva and Lake Geneva

I spent 1 night in this hotel during a business trip. Located near the NU palace the hotel provides a free bus ticket to visit the city center that you can reach in 10 minutes. Services and rooms are in line with the hotel category. Really outstanding the breakfast.
