I booked Nash Ville hotel just minutes before arriving from Lyon to Geneva. I was looking for a moderately priced hotel not far from Geneva centre and close to Railway station. With 4 stars, convenient location (5 mins from Cornavin Bahnhof, 5 mins from Lake Geneva) and 70 eur per night (almost free compared to other 4-stars hotels in Geneva) Nash Ville seemed to be the right place. Red-lights-disctrict neigbourghood seemed to be the only downturn.
And, boy, thank's god I was warned. Otherwise it would be definitely a shock. Because the hotel is not "near", but in the very heart of red-lights-disctrict. Though pretty small compared to Amsterdam with just 4 of maybe 6 streets, it's not the place where you go on fancy dating :) Hookers soliciting clients on the streets. Lots of drunken folks exiting bars. Very conspicious crowd, many illegal immigrants from Africa. Street robberies aren't unheard of here, I almost became a victim myself when some dude jumped to me and tried to snatch mobile from my shirt' pocket. So watch out.
On the bright side, it's really just 5 mins from Main Bahnhof and 5 mins to the centre. And It's the only district in Geneva where you could have dinner until 3 or even 5 a.m. Also small food-n-drink shops, "epiceries", work 24/7, including one just accross the small street from the hotel
As for hotel itself. The building is not very stylish outside, but once you get inside it's quite and even classy. The rooms are a bit worn-out, but surprisingly spacious, beds are comfortable, bathrooms are clean, towels are fresh-n- white :) Thick windows protect you from street noise. And they even give you free mini bar with one coke and two bottles of mineral water, yesss! :)
But then came the cooling system. It wasn't 21-centurty a/c or some intricate air-vent machine, but rather a dinosaur of kind I've only seen in cheap american motels. And it was malfunctioning. You couldn't set exact temperature, only turn it to heat or cool. And much worse was the sound. By 3 am I was so tired of it that am I turned system off and opened the window. Plus: lotta fresh air. Minus: drunken crowds shouting until 6am, and then pleasant sound of street cleaning machines :)
Other minuses : they charge you for wi-fi and block something like 200 or 300 dollars from you card as insurance.
To sum up: probably nothing like this in centre of Geneve in terms of price/room space/location. But only if you don't mind the neigbourhood. And be prepared for some upleasant suriprises like vintage a/c.
Check cooling system and probably bathroom in your room. Ask for another rooms if there're any p...
