“Great hotel with exceptional service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

Can't say enough about their service, they were so hospitable. They upgraded our room for our honeymoon. The room was so spacious with beautiful decor & a good bathroom. They not only gave us a gift basket but also complimentary tram passes. 5 minute tram ride to the center of town. They also helped us find a Korean restaurant which was very good. You're within minutes walk to the station & also to the lake. The breakfast was also good. I will definitely come back here again!

Room Tip: Get the superior room with balcony, view is not great but still fun to have a drink.

This hotel will appeal to people traveling around Europe by train, as it's well situated just two easy-rolling blocks from the Geneva train station and three blocks on a quiet pedestrian street to the lakefront. The hotel itself is beautifully appointed with modern amenities like an elevator, showers, air condioning, free WiFi and HD TV. The desk staff were very helpful with maps and other info. There's no resturaunt but they do serve a full breakfast including a large pot of coffee. Nothing in Geneva is cheap, even in this ethnic neighborhood, but there are numerous cafes nearby and along the lakefront. Fresh food is available at a co-op grocery on Rue Navigation square; also a pharmacy.
We rented bikes (first 4 hours free) from GeneveRoule on the lakefront and rode along the bike path that borders the lake, stopping at the incredible botanical gardens and the UN. Trams and busses are free for visitors (the hotel issues you a card) and many routes converge on the nearby train station.
The Kipling was a classy oasis of calm in a busy city - highly recommended for travelers.

We stayed only 1 night in Geneva and picked this hotel because of the reviews in TA and were not disappointed. The surrounding area is not the best but it is centrally located and you definitely get a "wow"-experience when you enter your room. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking behind the house is 30 Francs per 24 hours and subject to availability. 7-8 minute walk to the lake. If we ever come to Geneva again, we will most likely stay here.

We stayed at this hotel because of the great reviews it had received on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed. Some of the reviews had stated that the location was a bit seedy. We did not think so. It was just a short walk from the lake in one direction and a short walk from the main train station in the other location. The immediate area appeared to be residential with some businesses. I would say that it was a little better than a blue collar area.
My biggest complaint about the hotel would be that the toilet for our room was in a separate compartment away from the bath and sink. There was no sink immediately available to the users of the toilet.

Geneva is notoriously one of the worst city in the world when comes down to hotel accommodations. Almost all hotels are badly maintained, with unprofessional staff, with disgusting decor and generally massively overpriced. Hotel Kipling is definitely an exception to this terrible standard. The hotel decor is very pleasant, the staff competent and gentle, the rooms are small but clean and nicely decorated and the price is OK (would say great for Geneva). Definitely a place to consider if you ever have to stay in Geneva!

Clean, modern hotel, loved colonial style. Given the fact that this is a 3 hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by what I’ve seen. Probably it has to do with the price – I paid CHF 460 for a 2-night stay (week-end rate CHF 180; week day rate 280 CHF; breakfast not included) for a standard double room. I mean in Malaysia you can stay in a luxury 5* for nearly the same price.
The hotel is located in a quiet area, very close indeed from the central station (about 7-10 min walk). If you go outside, turn right and simply follow down the street in about 15 min you will be at the lake. If you followed down rue Leman when you face the lake on your right should be Bains des Paquis – very cute place, sort of city plage; you can swim, lie in the sun; order food and drinks at the café; I spent half of the day there – total relax with a beautiful view of the lake.
The room is quite spacious; clean; colonial style again; in the room - tea/coffee making facilities; bathroom kits (even with cotton pads and cotton sticks); bathrobe – so I should say very nice indeed for 3*. They thought about small things which are in fact not crucial but certainly contribute to the overall positive impression about the hotel.
Well Geneva hotels are far from cheap; so in case of this hotel I did not regret the money I paid.

Over the years, I have stayed at multiple hotels in Geneva -- and Hotel Kipling is the one that I always come back to (although I've stayed in almost every single Manotel and found them all quite good). Here are the pros: (1) the rooms are incredibly reasonably priced for Geneva and you can often get deals on their internet site, (2) the beds are nice and comfortable and there's usually a chocolate on your pillow when you arrive, (3) the bathrooms are modern and clean, (4) there is free WiFi (very difficult to find in Geneva - although if you walk 10 minutes to Mr Pickwick's Pub you can probably also pick some up), (5) the staff are incredibly kind and friendly -- they will call you a taxi, help you get a late night drink, and one time they even stored a bag for me (that included Jimmy Choo shoes) for about five months. I really don't think you can do better than that. It's a 4* hotel masquerading as a 3*.

The cons (as others have noted) is that the hotel is in Paquis, which some refer to as the red light district. The problem is, most of the decent hotels (particularly the Manotels) are also in Paquis. So the area is what it is. Having lived in Geneva and done my share of wandering down dark alleys at 1am, I think the trick is just to mind your valuables, stick to main streets and be sensible. There's nothing particularly different / scary about Paquis (there is actually some really good ethnic food to be found) that should detract from your experience at the Kipling. If, however, you want to stay down on the lake, you'll certainly pay for that privilege. As an alternative, consider staying on Hotel Royal -- which is still of the same quality -- but on a more main street. The only other real con of the Kipling is that it doesn't have it's own gym. You have to walk a block and a half to Hotel Autiel and use theirs.

NB: I have only had their breakfast once, and it was perfectly fine. I think it is far more pleasant (and economical) to walk down the street to one of the boulangeries and pick up some pain au chocolate.
