I have stayed at this hotel quite a number of times about 1.5 - 3 years ago. It used to be the Noga Hilton. The first time I stayed there, I was quite surprised about the rooms (all in one color), but I can not say I really liked it.
After the take-over by Kempinski, the renovation was slow and it took quite some months to get the public areas done and some of the rooms. The fact that the hotel was constantly renovating was a reason not to stay there anymore.
I have been back a couple of times over the last 12 months, but that was only for a couple of nights. This month I stayed here for 5 nights and was really disappointed, especially about the progress they have made and the price/quality ratio. Although the hotel recognized me as someone who had stayed at their hotel before, they still decided to put me (and my girlfirend, who was staying for the weekend only) in one of the old rooms. I only have one word for that room and that is BLUE. The whole room was very old, worn down and in one colour (i.e. BLUE). It was awefull. Just like a horrible dream from the 70's.
Hotel reception and staff at the balcony restaurant is quite nice, but the staff at the 2nd floor bar is very unattentive and not very interested in keeping the guests happy (except for one staff member). Things get even worse during the weekend, when a lot of local people visit the bar on the 2nd floor and (apparently) in their night club in the basement. You basically need reservations for everything, although most reserved tables stay empty. Instead of satisfying some (local or special) people, I feel that a hotel should be primarily focusing on its guests, rather than outside people. They should consider that to be their core business. Unfortunately, the Kempinski does not......
A couple of positive notes: beds are very good, breakfast is nice, but very expensive at CHF 50,= per person and room service is quite quick.
Overall not worth the money and very bad service at times (especially some of the public areas).
