We stayed as a special treat for four nights with three young children aged 6 to 12. We don't normally stay at five star hotels so can't make a great comparison with other comparable establishments, but it was a great experience. All the staff were very friendly and particularly welcoming to the children, so it all felt very comfortable and not at all intimidating or snooty. We were upgraded to a suite with interconnecting rooms and a separate sitting room which was extremely luxurious. We had a lady called Pauline who was assigned to help us make the most of our stay, which included her coming up with some good ideas for the children. We didn't make much use of her services as we'd extensively planned the trip beforehand, but it seems like they will do a lot in terms of activities for the children if you ask. Help was always available but equally the staff were good at judging that on the whole we like to be left to our own devices.
A very good American / continental breakfast was included in the price. The beds / rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms amazing. The hotel is also cleverly designed so that it feels much smaller and more private than I think it is and you never feel like you are tripping over other guests, and is very beautiful in a traditional style.
We also appreciated the location which was ten minutes from each of the train station and town centre while being right on the lake so very easy to get about within and outside Geneva. Also very convenient for a mid-day break from sightseeing.
Our only quibble was that everything not included in the room price is phenomenally expensive. I suspect that this is inconsequential for most people who stay there, but if you are going as a 'push the boat out' one off treat to stay there in the first place then you won't be having a cooked breakfast, room service, or using the minibar!
Given the price (it is very expensive) it should be good, but many hotels aren't. Compared to five star hotels I've stayed in on business, the Four Seasons in Geneva is much more friendly, characterful and special. Often when you go for somewhere much more pricey than normal it can feel a disappointment. Not so here. They made it a wonderful experience, which we felt was well worth it, and who knows may even be repeated in future!
They will give you interconnecting rooms if you request it.
