“A bustling up market Italian restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

On the ground floor there is a bar with a more limited snack menu, whereas on the first floor one is welcomed by the laughter and chatting of the diners enjoying good quality food since generations. The service is helpful and caters for business people as well as shoppers in the Old Town. Centrally located near the many sites it offers a nice break when touring the town. We went back the following day and enjoyed the "pasta dish of the day".

“Do not ask too much...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

One of the charms of a genuine Italian restaurant, of any category, is the possibilty to ask any simple thing and obtain it. Like a freshly squeezed lemon juice. At Lorenzini, do not dream about that. You have to follow the predefined rules and to pay. Lorenzini is a tipically Bernese restaurant, indeed. Just the menu is Italian. Pasta is systematically overcooked - apparently, Swiss people like that. Service is efficient and quick, but without geniality. Prices are high, except for daily business lunches.

“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

Never again

I went in person to the Lorenzini to choose a table and order the apéro. My husband turned 55 and we wished a “tête à tête” at Lorenzini. It carried the memory of proposing during our dinner there 2 years ago.

But ohohoh, two years can change a place.

We arrived on time and stayed at the bar to enjoy our Champagne with friends. We asked the barlady (a bond lady with glaces) to inform the resto we are downstairs and enjoying the apéro at the bar.

A little bit later we went up to enjoy our dinner, but what a disaster: the tables are much closer (they added some tables), it was noisy and very far from romantic. The waiter – with whom I made the reservation (see above I went personally), took as to a tiny table squeezed between 4 others. What a table!

I reminded him of having passed by in person to make sure we get the wished table. He said that is what is available (after spending > 100.00 CHF in the bar downstairs, we decided to move to wherever other place it can’t be worse.

We were lucky some blocks further we walked in an Italian restaurant called VERDI and spent a beautiful unforgettable evening. Although we popped in with no reservation, we had our dessert served with wonder candles and a continuous attention of the service staff.

“in the back horror, in the front nice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

one black african waiter is the highlight of this place. he knew how to handle the people at the front crystal lamp bar. But the back with the stairs going up was terrible with snotty bar men.
