“Charming Swiss character hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Old hotel but with lots of character. Stayed with another couple in a four bedded room. Comfortable and basic. Outside garden area very relaxing for an evening drink.
Manager Patrick very friendly and and helpful and so were the staff.
Situated opposite the river with beautiful views and down the road from the bear pit.

We stayed in this place for four weeks and the staff were friendly and very accommodating. Although the price is a little high, there is nothing you can find cheaper in Switzerland at this time of the year and wherever you go. Our room is service daily and with free breakfast and wifi, it is a good place to stay.

Switzerland is quite expensive these days, but if you are willing to share a bathroom, Landhaus is terrific. Rooms are small but immaculate with a sink. We had room 204 (up 2 flights) and the bathroom was a step across the hall. Only 3 other rooms shared the bath and we had no wait to use it. There are worn wooden spiral stairs to get to the room and no lift. Breakfast is cheese, breads, cereal, yogurt, juice and coffee, included in the price. There is a charming patio bar just outside. The location is immediately across the river from the old town on the quieter east side, very close to the must see bear land. There is ample parking in the public lot nearly outside the door. One can walk from the east to the west end of town in about 40 minutes of longer to take in the sights. For less than US $140. per night, this is a bargain in Bern.

We just stayed one night in beautiful Bern on our trip to Switzerland and we found this place through tripadvisor. We wanted a place reasonably price (let's face it, there is nothing cheap in Switzerland) and clean to spend our last night in Switzerland and spend a couple of days checking out Bern.
The place is in an old building that is very well maintained and clean. We loved the character of the building, it felt like home. The room we stayed was really really small and it had no bath room, but it was the only one available and it was clean and comfortable enough The hotel also had a restaurant/bar on the bottom floor. . We ate lunch and breakfast there and it was really good too.

However, what it made the difference was how nice and helpful everybody was. They let us make a long distance call to try to find our lost camera at no charge, they were very eager to give us directions and they let us leave our luggage all day in the hotel while we explored the city before parting to Zurich in the late afternoon. The place is run by the owners on you can definitely tell.

Room Tip: Book in advance if possible. Because they are always busy.

We stayed at the Landhaus for 4 nights from 26th August, Patrick and his wife Angela plus the evening bar staff are all charming and cannot do enough for you (for example printing our return boarding cards). We stayed in room 304 on the top floor accessed by a narrow staircase and there is no lift, not a problem for us but could be for the not so mobile. Our room was of the 'comfort' standard which include en-suite, the rooms are basic but very clean with daily maid service, our room did not have a wardrobe or chest of draws so it was hangers on the coat hooks and utilise the suitcase. Saying this the location and price compared to other hotels in Bern makes this a great choice if you are on a budget. The atmosphere of the hotel/hostel is relaxed with a bohemian feel and the menu of the café bar although limited is very good for a lunch stop, my wife tried both the soups on offer and thought them excellent. The bar is always busy on a night, popular with locals too as drinks are reasonably priced by Bern standards. The breakfast is simple but more than adequate with yogurt, cereal, juice, croissants, bread, butter, cheese and jam with tea or coffee, Patrick or Angela will toast your bread in the oven if asked. There is free Wi-Fi which worked well for us. To summarise this is budget accommodation in an expensive city (rule of thumb double UK prices for everything) with a great location, excellent staff and an informal friendly atmosphere, we would not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms 303/304 have a small balcony overlooking the bridge but its a hike up the stairs wit...

City center or bear's park, river or rose garden - you can count your steps. On the edge of the old city some "normal" rooms, even with a balcony, and some "bag-packers". Lovely, friendly staff, good breakfast, subsidised parking (ask), wifi, lovely atmosphere. Recomended.

From the train station it's super easy to get to, one bus. You then walk down the hill from the Bear park and you're there. I loved Bern and this hotel made it even better. Its close to the Old Town and easily walked. The hotel is full of charm and old world hospitality. Breakfast in the morning was simple but of excellent quality, the croissants were the best I've ever had. If I ever come back this way...I will definitely stay here again!
