“Very friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Landhaus is located in the centre of the 'old town', very close to the Bear Park. Bern is an extremely walkable city and we thoroughly enjoyed walking along the riverside.
Although our family room was very small (we had to jump over some bags), Patrick (manager/chef) more than made up with his large-hearted warmth with which he received & served everyone.

I stayed in the 6-bed dorm room for 2 nights in March. There was a lot of privacy given that the dorm is further split into 3 rooms (albeit with thin partition walls). Hence, it feels like you are staying in a 2 persons room. There was also 2 sinks that came with the dorm and a locker to use. The small café located on the ground floor is highly recommended - serving delicious food, snacks, and drinks. The best part of the hostel/hotel is the location - right on the edge of the old town, by the river, and mere minutes from the bear pit and the Altes Tramdepot.

This was one of the best places we stayed during our trip through Europe. Beautiful building, stunning location and friendly, helpful staff. And breakfast was always an absolute pleasure.
Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

The proprietor told us that the hotel is over 200 years old, and it shows. The place has an eighteenth century grace. The old, beautifully proportioned windows filled our room with light at different times of the day -- in December! There was even a shared bathroom -- a few steps down the hall -- utterly clean and modern, but it contributed to the roadside inn atmosphere. Easy to imagine Goethe staying there. Or Einstein, later, when he was first posted to Bern to the patent office and began his musings on time and relativity. Either of them might have set themselves up at one of the tables in the little cafe downstairs, working and drinking the excellent coffee, as we did. The river is at the doorstep, and the 15th century Muenster is five minutes' walk away. I dream of going back there again.

Room Tip: It's a very small hotel, the best thing would be to talk to the proprietors. Our room was very q...

The hotel has a cosy atmosphere, and is located almost by the river, within walkin distance from the city center. We stayed for two nights in late November with my fiancé. Our room was clean and spacious, but quite moderate. The cafe downstairs, where the breakfast was served, was really nice. Although the hotel is very nice, charmy and the staff is very relaxed and friendly, the price of the room feels a bit expensive, even for Switzerland.

This is an older hostel. There are no handrails for the staircase and no light in part of the dark stairwell. There is no elevator so be prepared to lug your stuff if your room is at the very top. It is clean and comfortable. A very nice breakfast was included. It was, however, quite expensive, as everything tends to be in Switzerland. The bus stop to the train station is up the hill from the hotel. The walk to the center is very nice and of course, from the bridges, one gets a very scenic view of the river. The bells from the clock toll on the hour at night and are quite loud.

My husband a I stayed in this hotel during two recent visits to Bern. We really enjoyed the warm atmosphere of this swiss-style wooden interior structure, as you feel very at home here. Rooms were really attractive and beds comfortable ...with charm of an old, but rebuilt inn'. Breakfast is eaten with 'local' people who come in for coffee or arrive later for drinks at the bar, adding a nice element of local life. The centre of Bern is only minutes away be car. Thomas was very helpful and immediately made us feel welcome. We will go back again to this hotel on our next visit.

Room Tip: Our only caution would be to close the windows at night, if you have a room in the front, as there i...
