We spent 2 extra nights in Switzerland after our River Cruise (it ended in Basel) and stayed here. The hotel was exactly what we wanted, close to the train station (2 minutes if you walk slow) and was clean and comfy.
We arrived early, about 8:30, and the room wasn't ready, so we just left our bags with the front desk, and caught a train to Lucerne for a day trip. When we returned, check in was a breeze. Our room was 300 something, but we were on the 4th floor (actually the 5th in Europe) with the other 400 series of rooms. Sound confusing? The buttons on the elevator do outline this for you, so you don't have to remember. We later found out the reason for this is that the hotel merged with another hotel and the odd numbering are a result of the renovation.
The hotel is very clean, great staff and the rooms were actually nice. Great linens, towels, nice bathroom and the bed was comfy. Internet access was provided, but we didn't have our laptop on this trip. There is a computer in the lobby that is available for 10-15 minutes at a time for free. Great to check email. Also included is breakfast. The meal itself was better than average, but the setting was way cool. It's in an old part of the hotel, and furnished quite nicely.
Another great perk was that there is a grocery store next door that also has a deli. Great place to buy Swiss Chocolate to bring home. We caught a plane from Basel (Euro) Airport and as part of renting a room you are given free public transportation. So, a bus picks you up right at the train station to take you to the airport. Very convenient. One last perk was that the mini-bar was included with the room.
Not sure that we'd stay in Basel again, there are much more scenic parts of Switzerland, but if we do, we would stay here for sure. Great place.
