The outside al fresco dining facing the Rhein in Basel offered by Hotel Krafft is a plausible alternative to place on the corner, but today on Sunday lunchtime was our turn to wait. Service turns out to be a little hit of miss. We started by being requested to order drinks .... these turned up after 10 minutes, although only a third of the tables were taken. We took the hint and immediately order our food. This took a full half and hour to arrive.
Which leaves you a little time to take in the view. The terrace of the Hotel Krafft is directly on the Rhein Promenade, so you can watch the population of Basel take their Sunday constitutionals or look across the river to the cathedral on the other side. The weather was perfect. the sun shining and their was a gentle breeze. But after around 20 minutes, we found time a little heavy on our hands.
When the food arrived it was imaginative and really quite good - I hadn´t been expecting this kind of quality - more a sort of microwave with a view. But this was better than planned. After another 10 minutes of trying to find a wait-person, we paid and left. CHF 100 for one course each for two persons, with mineral water. Swiss prices, but a pleasant location if you´ve got the time.
