Gourmet, thoughtful food and attentive service in a country park restaurant in Groenendaal Park, the kind of place where you can have a glass of champagne in the garden and linger over courses and coffee on linen-covered tables in the dining room.
Although there was a full-blown bachelor-and-bachelorette party going in half of Landgoed Groenendaal, and a full house in the other half when we were there, wait staff kept pace and took the time to answer questions on the food and wine. Choices on the seasonal menus are not too esoteric -- seafood, fish, veal, lamb -- but well-executed to modern tastes, from a sardine Nicoise starter to baked Guinea fowl to a construction of grilled mango and mango sorbet.
The daily lunch menu at €31 (US $40) for 3 courses is a good value, as is the (Michelin) Bib Gourmand menu that was on offer when we visited. Our group had starters, mains, a couple shared desserts and wine, for about €50 a person (US $65).
