“Great hotel”

This is a great hotel. It is located on a quiet street just off the Corso Vanucci--a main piazza for shopping and restaurants. So everything is nearby. The underground City is around the corner and the College is at the end of the piazza which always is filled with cheerful people. Staff at the hotel are friendly and warm. I had emailed them for a certain room and when I got there, they were holding that room for us. However the woman at the desk suggested an even nicer one and we took that. It had a balcony that looked out over the countryside and was at the end of a hallway so very quiet and comfy. Breakfast was lovely and I can't say enuf about the staff. There is no place to park, but a really nice man from the hotel took our car to a parking garage and brought it back and forth whenever we wanted it. I believe there is free parking in the historic area, but I didn't even want to think about finding a spot.
Around the corner from the hotel is a supermarket with everything you could want. Fresh sandwiches for a day trip or cheese and crackers for your room (ours had a small refrigerator.
We loved walking around the medieval sites and had wonderful food while in Perugia--Cafe de Perugia and Ristorante di Sole are both great places for dinner. Lots of little pastry shops on the Corso are lovely for people watching.

“Thoroughly recommended!”

I have been meaning to review this hotel since we were there last year. It really is a little gem. The staff were extremely helpful and spoke good English. The hotel is light, bright, spotlessly clean and neutral without lacking character. The breakfast was simple but good and the service very friendly. We were left a huge chocolate egg in our room for Easter and the breakfast on Easter Sunday included delicious regional specialties, I would stay here again in a heartbeat if ever in Perugia.

“Great Location - Poor Beakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2010

On arrival, we were allocated a very basic triple room. After complaining to the reception staff, we were shown a far superior room at no extra cost.
After having a goood sleep, we went down for breakfast. A beautiful dining room with frescos on the ceiling. The breakfast was one of the poorest we have ever experienced. The 'fruit juice' was cordial concentrate, the capuccino was watery, and the food selection was inadequate for a hotel of this category. We were visiting in the middle of winter, with very few guests, but that is no reason to serve a poor breakfast for the current guests.

“Hotel Fortuna has Character In Every Stone.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2009

This hotel is in an ideal location, just a few turns from the escalators at the top of Perugia’s Citi Alta.
The staff was polite. They were knowledgeable of local bus and transportation information and had schedules to give us, They had good advice on how to get about.
The hotel has a lot of charm and some very interesting common rooms. There is a reading room with frescoes, and a nice little balcony.
The room we stayed in had a ton of character. It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious. The bed was comfortable.
The hotel is very central to all of the attractions of Perugia. The only complaint we had was there was a bit of noise in the street at night from revellers at the bar down the street. As with most medieval towns, the street are very narrow and the noise carried very well. The people partying at the bar were noisy leaving it in the middle of the night. It’s a college town with a lot of students. In retrospect, I think given that detail, it was really pretty quiet. In spite of this one problem I would not hesitate for a second to check right back in and ask for the same room.

“Our home in Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2009

We started our trip to Italy here, collecting our son from his semester abroad in Perugia. This hotel was an oasis for us and a great start to the trip. It was convenient, quiet and served a great breakfast! The staff was friendly, and very helpful. The location was close to the main attractions but just enough removed to be quiet. The staff allowed us to store a major part of our son's luggage while we continued our trip, so we returned for another brief stay. Different room, same great experience.
I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else when we return to Perugia (a too often overlooked destination in Italy, to get the flavor of a non-touristy Italian city).
