“Absolutely lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We were looking for a place to eat in Perugia, and came here based on other reviews. We were delighted with the choice!

Lovely setting, excellent food and thoughtful extras, such as a glass of prosecco when you arrive and a liqueur (chocolate) when you leave.

We were not sure about the wine, so were worried when the waiter said he would choose one for us. We assumed that he would pick a really expensive one, but he didn't. He picked a delicious Montefalcone, at the lower end of the prices on the wine list, and it was lovely. Would recommend to anyone, especially the Paperdelle!

In terms of price, we paid 100 euros for 2 courses and wine. Considering the quality of the food, we thought it was well worth it!

“Good quality food and experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Excellent meal, really good quality food and very good service too. Not the cheapest meal you'll find by any stretch, but the dishes live up to the price tag. They also throw in free prosecco to begin with and a free liqueur at the end of the meal.

The head chef made a point of introducing himself to the guests and asking if you were pleased with the meal, which was a nice touch. If available, try one of the local beef dishes!

The setting is very nice too, with a cosy, romantic atmosphere (although the walk to the front door would suggest otherwise, it's sort of tucked away off of the main high street in Perugia's centre). Would definitely recommend.

“Most enjoyable.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

This was hands down the best on our Umbrian/Toscany detour. The restaurant is very pretty and warm, the food is out of bounce. I had scrambled eggs with truffles and black truffles ravioli, my husband had grilled polenta with pork meat sauce and grilled lamb chops. The plates are gorgeous and you will not leave this restaurant hungry. The bill came to almost 80$ with wine, water, expressos and dessert. Nice touch: liquore a choccolata is served complimentary. Crisp and attentive service, the chef came twice to check on our dinner. He is a fine gentleman.

“The Best of the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

La Taverna is one of the best (maybe THE best) restaurant my wife and I have ever eaten at in our entire lives. It's that good. We were in Perugia at the end of May and decided to go their our first night in the city. Everything was phenomenal. From complementary glasses of prosecco when we sat down to complementary glasses of their home-made chocolate liquor when we finished eating, from perfectly cooked, unbelievably delicious entrees (the grilled orata was sublime - and very generous portion size too!) to warm, friendly service, the entire experience could not have been more outstanding!

We went back there 2 nights later (after a good-but-not-memorable dinner at a different restaurant the previous night) and had an even BETTER experience the second time around! Again food, service, etc... was outstanding, and this time, the Executive Chef made his way around the restaurant to chat with the patrons. He was incredibly friendly and told some funny stories. We told him it was out honeymoon and asked for some photos with him and the waitresses and they were all happy to oblige! At the end of the meal (I had a fabulous pasta this time, with a tomato-based sauce bursting with flavor), we were told that the Executive Chef had paid for our wine!

I have never in my life been to a restaurant where I was made to feel like I was part of the family than I was at La Taverna. Everyone there - from the Chef to the waitresses to the guy at the desk when you first come in - was terrific, especially considering I am well aware how obnoxious Americans who need translations of everything on the menu can be! Prices were very reasonable, and, most importantly, the food was unmatched in its deliciousness - we tried to convince the chef to come back to Boston with us, but were unsuccessful.

In summary, this place is among the very best in a country full of the very best places to eat in the world. If you are in Perugia, La Taverna is not to be missed!!!
