“Unbelievable experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We stayed at this property last October (2012) and considered it the highlight of our two week trip through Italy! We chose to stay in the castle tower, which was built in the year 1000, had 5 feet thick walls and stairs to test even the best thigh muscles- it was fabulous! There were 3 small floors (modern bathroom, entry area and comfortable bedroom - plus access to the tower roof for a 360 degree view of the countryside.) The castle grounds were lovely to stroll and the dining room was warm and inviting with outstanding food. Oh, and breakfast each morning was perfect! We are planning to return to Italy next year and we will definitely be staying at the castle again!

Room Tip: We loved the Tower and have had SO much fun telling the story of staying in it (there is even a smal...

There are moments in your life that are unique: spend some time in the castle, and its memories will last. This is not just about modern luxury of a 5* Hotel. It's about the authenticity of a millennial place where a clever maintenance and remodeling provide you with jacuzzi ( suite ), swimming pool, WiFi ( studio and library areas ). You will have a great candle light dinner at the lower level and a charming breakfast with magnificent view at the higher floor. Prices for the room will change, but we found the overall cost extremely competitive. We had an outstanding dinner with great wines for what in Italy is an average price. But in a place that is difficult to beat. Last but not least, each person we met has been professional and friendly. Thanks everybody.

Room Tip: we had selected a superior, but were upgraded, but I think that each room is charming. The one in th...

We had the great pleasure of staying 4 nights at the Castello di Petroia in early July 2013. Staying at this wonderfully unique castle was a highlight of our trip (this was following 5 nights at the St. Regis in Rome). The service provided by the staff was top notch and they went out of their way to make sure our every need was met.

My wife has celiac disease and therefore requires gluten free food – the staff went above and beyond to make sure she was happy and had what she needed – both for our breakfasts at the castle (in a beautiful room with 2 enormous fire places from the 15th century) as well as the amazing meals in the restaurant. After our first dinner, we knew that we would be eating at the castle each of the nights during our stay – the chef is fantastic – and these were our best meals throughout our time in Italy (not an easy thing to achieve). On 3 of the nights we chose our meals off of the menu; however, on one night the castle was hosting a special dinner and presentation from a local professor – the topic was the importance of locally grown agriculture. Each of the 5 courses represented local seasonal food (all items that can be found on the castle’s grounds) and the professor described the importance of them – these types of dinners are hosted 3 or 4 times a year. We felt like it was a special treat to participate and the courses were all wonderful.

Our room was great – a very large suite (I believe the largest in the castle) called the Stanza Federico Dux with 2 rooms, hall, and bath and amazing views out over the valley. The setting for the castle could simply not be better – remote, with beautiful landscapes of rolling hills, valleys and a castle in the faraway distance.

Our 7 year old daughter also loved staying in the castle, enjoying the use of the pool, and being treated well by the staff. We met the castle owner on a number of occasions and it is clear that he loves to share his family’s castle so that others may enjoy it as well. From the hotel we made day trips to many area towns – Spoleto, Spello, Gubbio, Assisi, Montefalco.

Our stay at Castello di Petroia will be long remembered.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms look beautiful, but we wanted a suite so that our daughter had her own room - we we...

We stayed in the Castello for 3 nights. It is absolutely unique place! It dates back to 11 century AD, has a rich history, Frederico de Montefeltro was born there. For the past 100 years or so it belongs to the family who converted it into a luxury hotel. Large comfortable rooms with wood beams on the ceiling , my guess, they are about 500 years old.Our suite had Jacuzzi tub. It was sparkly clean. The staff was fantastic, they accommodated every request we had, including my teenage son wanting to rent Vespa. They went our of their ways to make everything perfect! The restaurant was outstanding! We had one of the best meals in Italy and that is hard considering how good Italian food is.I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Ask for a suite, it is worth extra expense

I visted Petroia with my dad and mom for one night.
Our schedule was very tight so we arrived the castel around midnight.
But the castel was twinkling brightly as if it is an early evening, and some people ran out to say hello to us as soon as we arrived at the door.
We got an impression that people of the castel was not sleeping to wait for us.
When we got in our room, we surprised.
The room was really warm, already.
They've already operated a heater for us not to feel cold from the first time.
They even gave us the larger room than we reservated.
The next day, on the way to go to Spello, they gave us another generous helping.
We were in a difficulty to find a good trasportation to our hotel in Spello.
The owner of the castel, the man I cannot forget for ever, took us there by himself.
The way to get there was not easy, but he asked people how to get there several times, and finally took us to our destination.
I remember his silent voice, warm eyes.
I promised him that I will get back there in a few years.
And I will.
I felt that Petrioa is not a place for making money but a place for making people happier and giving people as much as they can.
I wanna meet Dr.Carlos and the people there soon again.
And I hope they also could remember me, Asha.

I highly recommend Castello di Petroia. It is a real castle and the rooms are very comfortable. The staff is extremely helpful and nice, both at reception and at the restaurant. The food at the restaurant is extremely good, try their home salad with greens and fruits, it is excellent. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy when we stayed there so we did not enjoy the swimming pool or the garden. But it was nice to be in a heated place after having walked a whole day under the rain and the castle was heated which was very much appreciated as the other hotels we stayed at during the same period where not heated and were therefore rather uncomfotable, especially the bathrooms.

The only small negative point at the Castello is that you can sometimes hear the noise from the other rooms, especially if like us you have an agitated child in the next room.

But I would love to stay there again, especially with warm and sunny weather.

Didn't stay at the hotel, just ate at the restaurant.
Excellent food with a good selection for vegetarians.
Furthermore the staff were very helpful with two gluten-intolerant guests.
Wonderful evening in a classic location.
