“We've been to paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

This was really an amazing experience. The owners of the little B&B where we stayed are friends of Riccardo and Marilisa and were so nice to book dinner for us at the Borgo. And what a great experience that was.
The long strada bianca made us wonder for a second where we would arrive but then the Borgo turned up. What a beautiful view. When you walk into the chapel, the first building that belongs to the borgo, you immediately become enthousiastic. The whole borgo has been restored beautifully and is a combination of antiques and nowadays comfort.
The total atmosphere is absolutely pleasant and Riccardo and Marilisa are perfect hosts. It is a small Paradise, hidden in the countryside of Gubbio, with splendid views.

The dinner was absolutely great. The plates looked beautiful and the tastes were splendid. And the good news was that we could join them once again that week.

We (the tall Dutch couple) will definitely return and will also book one of the rooms then. What a great idea to look forward to.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay. Riccardo and Marilisa are the greatest of hosts. From the welcome aperitif to the relaxing infinity pool, this place has it all. A highlight for us was the handmade, freshly prepared food, which is as beautifully presented as it is delightfully tasty. We left feeling like part of the family. A special thank you goes to Elisa for her wine recommendations and faultless waitress skills. We will definitely stay here again.

It is rare to find a hotel in an extraordinary setting, with comfortable rooms, delicious food and charming helpful hosts. When you find such a place cherish it. Is there anything else to add? I hesitated writing this review for fear of making it so popular that I would be unable to come again. But the hosts merit all the compliments they can get.

Everything you have read in the past reviews are on target. This is a special place.
All I want to say is "Thank you, Ricardo and Marilisa, for sharing this wonderful spot on earth with us traveling in Umbria. You made our stay very special and we will always have great memories of Carpiano."
I hope to visit again in the future.

Riccardo and Marilize is doing everything with so much passion and enthuziasm. The Borgo and the food was fantastic.Having our own guesthouse Christiana Lodge in Plettenberg Bay we know the effort that goes into such a detailed service. Even though the weather was cool and rainy we loved every moment. The tea and coffee facility in the lounge was a special treat as we are used to this in South Africa but found it in no other accomodation in Italy. Riccardo and Marilize have an open invitation to visit us.

Having travelled most of the world over the last 50 years and stayed in every type of accommodation from Youth Hostels to International 5 Star Palaces, Borgo di Carpiano embraces the best of everything we have yet experienced with fine views, comfortable clean rooms, excellent cuisine and beautiful buildings.
However, what all the others cannot possibly emulate is the extraordinary welcome and devoted service offered by our hosts Ricardo and Marilisa Parisi who lift the experience of staying at the Borgo from extremely pleasant to something that we will remember and cherish for the rest of our lives.
Their devotion shows everywhere, from the fine dining with wonderful local wines, the beautiful terraces and pool, the décor not to mention their assistants, Harmony, Lucky, Louis and Armstrong who are a delight as are the rest of their staff.
The relaxed and pleasing atmosphere imbued us all with such a feeling of well being that the visit became a wonderful house party for all the guests with no one wanting it to end and many new friendships made.
Sadly, the ratings herein only go up to excellent - if there was a sixth designated as the best ever, they would get that from us!
Thank you both for a wonderful stay - we are already booked to return next year and who knows, we may not be able to resist a flying visit this autumn!

My wife and I enjoyed four days at Borgo di Carpiano in May. This place is magnificent. Our room was very large, comfortable, quiet and had a wonderful view across the Umbrian hills. We particularly enjoyed our meals there. They were innovative and beautifully prepared. Ricardo and Marilisa are delightful hosts who made our stay very special. This is indeed a wonderful place to just relax or use as a base to explore Umbria.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The ancient castle of Carpiano is among the hidden treasures of beautiful Umbria. This small hamlet is located at only 12 Km from the medieval town of Gubbio and 22 km from Perugia. In this pleasant place simplicity, elegance and warmth of genuine hospitality are ideally combined. The Borgo is surrounded by secular olive trees and lush woods in a pristine valley crossed by the Ventia stream. The three stone buildings that comprise it are perched on a spur of rock that ends with an infinity pool of salt water overlooking the valley. In the main building, the old church has been restored keeping the original frescoes and has been now converted into library and conversation room hosting classical music concerts and events. During the winter months meals are served in the large dining room in front of the warmth of the old fireplace while in the summer are served in the small square with breathtaking view over the valley.Home made bread, cakes and biscuits, vegetables from the vegetable garden and a search of quality ingredients, all strictly "seasoned with our own olive oil" ....The Borgo has only eight rooms all renovated respecting the original architecture and materials of the time. Get lost in the woods, plan to do very little, get accustomed to the silence are recommended activities!Borgo di Carpiano is also an ideal setting for an exclusive place to celebrate with your friends a special occasion. In house wine, cheese and olive oil tasting, cooking classes, therapeutic treatments and relaxing massages can be arranged. Horse riding, golf, rafting can be found in the nearby surroundings. The Borgo is in a strategic position to visit all the major Umbrian towns. ... more   less
