We stayed here for 3 nights recently with 29 people in our group. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to help us. The wait staff made sure everyone was satisfied. Someone in our group had a special diet and they did all they could to accommodate her. They went above and beyond. The food was excellent. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable and very clean. The location was beautiful. This is the kind of place you could stay for a week or more and feel like your at home. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Asissi Italy.

Wonderful hotel in a beautiful location. Wish we had longer there as one of the best we stayed at in Italy. Clean and well presented. Rooms are a good size and the view is incredible. Reasonable breakfast, better than most. Staff friendly and made to feel welcome. A must visit area in Italy. This is the only hotel on our Italian holiday that I have been comfortable to rate as excellent. It is a stand out location and quality.

Positives: The hotel is inside the walls of Assisi and is only a short walk to the Basilica. The hotel offers awesome views of the Umbrian Hills.

Negatives: Our room in the annex building was in desperate need of a paint job, new carpet and some maintenance. The bathroom had mold growing on the walls and the showerhead came away from the wall when I tried to direct the water spray. No way was our room up to 4 star standards.

Our tour dinner was at the hotel and it was mediocre. Our table mates wanted to order wine and told the waiter. He disappeared before it could be ordered and never came back to the table until he delivered the meal. They decided to skip it.

We were leaving early, so we were at breakfast when it opened. However, the scrambled eggs were dried out and appeared to have been sitting for hours.

I spent 3 nights solo at The Giotto hotel and loved every minute of it. The staff were incredibly friendly and the service was very personal. The staff at the front desk were exceptional and remembered guests by name. My room was very clean and comfortable with a stunning view of the valley. I would highly recommend The Giotto as fantastic place to stay.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room on the valley side. The views are stunning and there is no street noise.

Celebrated my birthday here with my two adult children. We found the hotel clean and well located for sightseeing in Assisi. Parking was free. Breakfast was lovely on the terrace overlooking the hillside, so quite and peaceful. Enjoyed our stay here.

Umbria is a less popular tourist destination than Tuscany but as the locals say, 'its silence is its charm.' When you look over the hilly terrain of Umbria from the terrace of Hotel Giotto you will be grateful that you are not overwhelmed by hordes of tourists that frequent Tuscany. For the most part, Assisi and the Hotel Giotto are peaceful rest stops. This hotel is beautifully situated so that you can walk to the medieval section of Assisi and also enjoy a panoramic view of the countryside. Beware that not all rooms in this hotel are equal in their view. The rooms that are up high give you a better view. Avoid the rooms that are at ground level. While here, take the time to wander through the streets of Assisi and enjoy the local pastries at a cafe. The pace of life is slow in this area and it provided me with a welcome rest from the frantic life and traffic in Rome.

Room Tip: Do not choose a room at ground level (anything that begins with a '1'). Ask for a room that...

Friends suggested I get away from the city (Florence) for the weekend and get to Assisi. I made reservations for the Giotto online and got a very good rate which included a breakfast buffet. More on the buffet later.
I took the Noon Regional train from Florence (2 1/2 hours, first class, no reserved seating but not crowded really) and at the train station in Assisi, made a big mistake.
Rather than asking if there were busses to Assisi from the station, I did the dumb American thing and went outside to get a taxi. 14 Euros later (!!!) I got to the Giotto. 10 minute bus rides are only 1.60 Euro!
The Giotto is a little sanctuary of peace. Less than 5 minutes from the hotel is the basilica of St Francis. To the main square (with shops, restaurants, gelaterias, etc.), it's a 10 minute walk.
The folks at Reception were very helpful, told me the hours of their restaurant (evening meal 7-10, breakfast 7-10), and when I got to my room it was simple, clean and very comfortable -- six pillows on the bed, with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside.
After lots of walking I decided to eat at the hotel that evening and the food was superb. You could tell this was no ordinary warmed-up hotel fare. The waiter explained how the Umbrian antipasto I ordered ("wet bread") was especially prepared. I was happy to have the explanation as the starter was crowned with a subtle spoonful of sorbet.
My main course was a meatless gnocchi, with truffle pieces and truffle cream sauce. Very subtle and gentle. The wine was an Umbrian red -- vino della Casa, ie not expensive. I finished with a rosé grappa that brought everything together perfectly.
The next morning I went down for breakfast to a lovely room overlooking the countryside and was treated to various meats, delicate cheeses (as well as creme cheese), a selection of breads, eggs, bacon, honey, marmalades, yogurt, fruit, etc., etc., etc. what a great way to start a full day of hiking throughout the town!
So, in the future, this is where I'm going to land when I need to get out of the city and get away to the peaceful countryside! Good job Giotto! Oh, and by the way there's a spa at the hotel but I didn't partake. Prices of the spa services are in all the rooms.

Room Tip: Do it online and you will find bargains. Make sure you g a room with a view, but then again, maybe...
