“Beautiful peaceful town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

It is very easy to get around this little town. So many shops selling excellent locally made hams, salamis, olive oil, cheeses, truffles and bread. A gourmet's delight.

“Don't forget this one”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Whilst not in the walled City of Assisi, you will pass by when coming from the station. Don't pass this one by, its sensational. St. Francis's original chapel is inside and it is just beautiful. An absolute must see. We were lucky that there was a Rembrandt, Chagal, da Vinci, Dali (and a few others) exhibition in the rooms of the Basilica whilst we were there which added to our experience.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We arrived with only a half hour before the mid day closing and would have liked more time. The little chapel where St. Francis began his preaching is preserved inside this church. You can also see the place where he died. If you are going to be in Assisi certainly plan to stop here. The basilica is about 5km from the town of Assisi. Our hotel arranged a taxi there for us since we had little legs making the trip and we were short on time. However, it would be a beautiful walk if you are inclined.

“Astounding church contains St. Francis' tiny chapel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

There is always a crowd here. The church is one of the largest in the world, and it contains the tiny chapel that St. Francis used. Many interesting reliquaries are also there. It is worth a visit, for sure.

“Make a stop here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

Going to or coming from Assisi this magnificent basilica, with the original intact tiny church within, is well worth a visit. It is so much quieter than Assisi. There is an interesting museum and gallery adjacent and if you have time make a visit to the convent chapel behind the main building. It is beautifully decorated in an unusual almost art deco style and is much used for weddings (typically on Saturday mornings).
