Town of Assisi does not disappoint but "Simple Retreats" does!
In a nutshell, I felt that I could have completed the same activities and achieved the same results at home-the only diiference would be the venue (the farm outside Assisi which is where the retreat is conducted and the town of Assisi itself)
Having read the recommendation from Travel and Leisure,(Top 10 retreats) I discovered that their description did not quite match the reality of my visit to the Assisi Retreat Centre. This was the schedule each day:
First activity - morning meditation for approx. one hour in sillence (9:00a.m.-10:00a.m.) with the gorup including Ruth and Bruce Davis.
10:00-11:15-Free time in silence to read, walk, continue meditation on our own -Bruce Davis available should you wish to talk to him one on one
11:15-11:45- Movement meditation with Ruth Davis
Approx 12:00-end of daily retreat. Bus pick up to take those participants not staying at the farm back to Assisi. Afternoons on your own.
So essentially the retreat consisted of approx. 1 hour silent Meditation, free time in silence and approx. half an hour of movement meditation which does not quite coincide with the Travel and Leisure description.
Finally, at the end of the retreat on the final day, I was quite offended by some of the comments shared by Bruce Davis. Without going into the specifics, in order to make a point and give words of advice, I felt that his comments referring to someone else as an example of how one should not act/behave was certainly lacking in compassion as well as being quite indiscrete-not exactly the type of discussion one should be having at any time let alone at a spiritual retreat!
