“Stunning scenery courteous and friendly hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2010

We stayed in Anchiano and it met all our expectations. The ancient farmhouse is beautiful as are the views. We were slightly nervous travelling with a nine month old but Luigi and Simone had organised a cot and a high chair. The apartment was very clean and the kitchen supplies (pots and pans etc) sufficient. With the hot weather we made good use of the pool which was cleaned daily. We were given just the right balance of privacy and advice and information when we asked for it. The area is quiet and peaceful and nearby Vinci has all the supplies you could want. It's also a good position for exploring Siena, Pisa and Florence.

The appartments are lovely old farm buidlings converted into appartments. We stayed in appartment anchiano. The appartments themselves are rustic, quite basic and the furnishings are a number of years old and a bit faded. The shower rooms are ridiculously small and very cramped. If you aren't spending much time inside the appartment it wouldn't be a problem but if you were to spend any length of time inside it wouldn't be ideal. We took our 3 month old baby and the owner was very helpful and brought cots and high chairs etc. The swimming pool was in a lovely setting and very clean and the estate is lovely to walk around. The views are absolutely stunning and the location is really, really beautiful. It's rather off the beaten track and about 1 hour's drive from any of the local sights but the drives are beautiful. The internet was rather intermittent so don't rely on it (and you have to ask to get connected which can be difficult as the owner isn't always there and his brother can't do it). Overall I would possibly go again if I wanted a tranquil setting and somewhere for older kids to splash around in the pool for a week (probably ideal if you go with another family with kids). It's not somewhere to go if you want to eat out in the evening as the local town of Vinci has limited restaurant options. It wouldn't be my first choice though because of the size of the appartments (small), the standard of furnishings (faded) and the length of drive to get to any sights.

This is our second stay at Casa Carbonaia and it won't be our last. We had one of the rustic flats in a converted farmhouse perched on the hillside with fantastic panoramic views. Quiet location wonderful sunsets as it gets sun all day and faces west. Accommodation has everything you need towels, linen, but as it's self catering you buy all your food (don't forget the washing up liquid!). Recommend you try the wine for sale in the property. The owner Simone could not have been more helpful and now feels like an old friend. You'll see from his website he does activity excursions as well, ideal for the adventurous. The outdoor swimming pool is very well maintained, albeit only for the brave in September, and has beautiful views. There are large grounds, plenty of seating, BBQ area and nearby walks. You do need a car as no shops within walking distance. Nearest main village is Vinci with all amenities you would expect to find. Visit the website for photos and location etc. Can't wait to return.
