“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

We stayed at Villa Elda for our wedding anniversary in September 2012, the hotel was very clean, a 10 minute walk into the heart of Siena and overall a very good base in a convenient location. The view of Siena on the walk in is not to missed, you actually get to see it from an angle that you wouldn't necessarily see if you stayed in the centre of town. The reception staff were most helpful and even moved their car so we could park ours outside the hotel!!! Breakfast was basic but good enough to set you up for the morning. The only downside is there's no lift so prepare yourself for a few steps, it wasn't a problem for us as we are young (ish) and pretty fit!! We stayed for two nights and ate at the hotels recommendation of Da Divo on our wedding anniversary, fantastic restaurant.

Room Tip: There is no lift.

Nice and friendly staff. The owner is a charming lady. We had a problem with the room, which I will not even mention here because the owner solved it perfectly. Well done!
Clean and spacious room. Good location in the outskirts of central Sienna (thus being able to park and avoid the ZTL).

I'm not going to go into too many details on hotels but basically I can tell you this.

Pros - It was clean, the service was really nice, the overall atmosphere of the hotel was nice.

Cons - Not where the action is (can be good or bad)...about 10-15 min walk to city center, breakfast was basic but included.

All in all, I enjoyed the hotel!

We were so happy to return to Siena and stay at the Hotel Villa Elda for the 4th year in a row especially to celebrate our 40 anniversary. We arrived late in the evening, because of flight delays and a missed connection to Firenze.Barbara ,who was at the reception desk ,was relieved that we were fine and quickly settled us in our room. We opened the huge window to find a spectacular panoramic view of Siena with the impressive Duomo before us !The next morning as we walked through the lobby, Signora Elda and Veronica greeted us warmly ,saying how worried they had been since we had emailed them about our delays. From that moment on, everyone at Villa Elda wanted to make sure we had a wonderful week with them ! Veronica, Barbara and Ricardo were always very friendly and helpful . They answered our questions, arranged a Brunello tour, and even had a chilled bottle of champagne awaiting our return one afternoon ! Each morning we looked forward to a delicous breakfast in the serene garden, such a relaxing way to start the day Rosita took great care of us there, and she also kept our room in perfect order the entire week. Veronica surprised us with a drive out to San Galgano, and gave us a great tour of the abbey after she finished work one day. She knew were having difficulty with bus connections and wanted us to be able to enjoy seeing more of the area. The biggest thrill of all was Signor Carlo's invitation to fly in his private plane to view Siena and the surrounding towns ! It was literally above and beyond all our expectations ! Signor Carlo also drove us up to Piazza Gramsci and made sure we were at the correct bus stop for our trip to Firenze. The beauty of Hotel Villa Elda is only surpassed by the graciousness of the lovely Signora Elda and Signor Carlo's thoughfulness and charm. We hope to have the privilege of staying with them again next year. Until then, we express our deep appreciation to Signora Elda, Signor Carlo, Veronica, Barbara, Ricardo and Rosita for making our 40th anniversary perfect ! Grazie , Peggy and George

With our hire car it was important to us that our hotel in Siena was easy to reach & had parking available. So we decided on the Hotel Villa Elda from the favourable reviews on Tripadvisor. It was not too hard to find - however there have been some changes in the roads into Siena so our GPS did get a bit confused. There was plenty of on street parking so we never had a problem finding a space.
The hotel looks to have once been a large house - set as it is in a largely residential area. It has fairly minimalist decor but was clean & well presented. There is no lift however so be prepared to carry your cases up some steep stairs if you are on a higher floor. The reward for this however was a beautiful panoramic view of the Siena skyline with the Duomo at its centre. The room was a reasonable size with a separate area for our luggage & more than adequate for us. The location being out of town was nice & quiet which made for a good nights sleep.
One of the attractions for us was the roof terrace. This shared the same panoramic view as our room. It was a lovely place to sit with a bottle of Prosecco in the evening & watch the sunset turn the city golden. It was a shame however that more was not done with the terrace to bring out its full potential. There were only a few plastic chairs - no plants - and an Astroturf style floor. A little love and attention could make this a lovely space. I understand from earlier comments that the hotel is looking to improve this area currently.
Breakfast was a basic continental affair - the coffee was good which is most important to me.
The location did prove to be good - it is a 5-10minute walk to the City - the area felt perfectly safe. The walled city became very lively in the evening so I think it may have been noisy to stay in it.
In summary this was a nice base for a short stay in Siena to explore the city & surrounding area.

We stayed at the Villa Elda in July. There is no lift and if you have a room above the first floor you have a puffing 30 steps up- no fun after a day in heatwave conditions. The TV was postage stamp size making it difficult to see from the bed and there was no connection to any English speaking channel ( the only hotel we stayed in where this was). They don't take Amex either- of course they are perfectly entitled to do this but it is a pity the sign telling you this is hidden behind the daily weather forecast- We did not see it until checkout time! The hotel was certainly clean and neat, but seniors beware.

Dear guest,
thank you for remembering us with the review at your return home in Australia.
We are sorry that you haven't had a comfortable stay with us; we could help you changing place, without the steps ,in other rooms, maybe in front of the garden.
We try to put in practice your suggestions.
Looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you again in our beautiful city, we send you our best regards.
