“Great place to stay but only if you're driving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

We booked this hotel on the basis of Rick Steves' and Trip Advisor recommendations, and had a decent stay on the whole. However, it was not easy to find- we had taken a city bus from Piazza Gramsci (#3) and got off at Colonna San Marco, only to realise we were trapped with bags in the middle of what appeared to be nowhere, with lots of traffic swirling around us. It's great if you have a car and can just drive right up, but not if you're relying on public transport. Get a good map from the internet before coming, and cross check across different websites because google maps put 70 via massetana about 1km down the road...

Breakfast was lovely, served in a bright room, and the people working there were great. Our room was very comfortable. All in, a great place to stay only if you're driving.

We happened upon this hotel for 1 night in Siena and got the last 2 rooms for the night. This ended up being a really nice hotel. It's not big, I think 28 rooms and not centrally located near the sights in Siena, but it is clean, comfortable, and nice. The staff was very friendly and provided us a good recommendation for dinner. The rate included breakfast and it was closer to what we would consider a continental breakfast in the US, but the food was good. The eating area was fairly small but it looks like just enough tables.

San Marco is a nice clean new hotel. As others wrote is a bit out of the town but there is very good public transportation during the day, however it stops at 22.00 and the only option is to walk or taxi (~10 euro). It is a great choice if you have to catch the early bus to Rome, the station is few hundred meters from the hotel. The staff was very helpful and polite. As we had to catch a very early bus, they prepared the full breakfast for us at 5.30

This place is more Motel than Hotel-- it's modern and clean, but too far from everything to make it an easy walk. It's a bit isolated-- there's nothing much to do in the immediate vicinity. The staff was polite and helpful. The room looked nice, but there were problems. The shower stall leaked so much that water was pooled an inch deep in the bathroom, and there was no drain so the only way to dry the floor was with the rest of the towels. The alarm clock went off at 3 AM-- I hadn't set it, and I have now learned to check. The TV came on by itself at 4, probably the work of the alarm-setter. Overall, a surreal one-night stay. It was ok, but I'd stay in town if I hadn't waited until the last minute to make reservations.

Room Tip: Check the alarm! Check the timer on the TV!!

New hotel slightly out of town, in a small-business area. Helpful staff. There is a bus stop right outside that takes you to the railway station (line 3) or to the center (line 54). You can walk back downhill from the center to the hotel in about 25 minutes. The hotel is located in between some busy roads, but there is no traffic noise inside the rooms; very well isolated. Good new rooms, new beds, well equipped; no english-language tv-channels though. Mediocre breakfast. P.S.: If you are at the railway station and you want to catch bus 3 to the hotel, you need to cross the square, go into the mall, turn left, and when you see the escalators on you right, turn left again. Here you find the elevator to the basement level. Once outside in the tunnel you will find the bus stop. Btw, taxi will take about 10 minutes.

This was a very nice hotel just on the outskirts of Siena. The breakfast is excellent. We had to leave early the next morning and the full spread was available at 6am. The bus stop is right outside to hotel and so it is no issue in getting into Siena itself. The hotel staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms are large and very comfortable. Just a point to note, the hotel is actually easily accesible as it is right off the highway but the first time you see the area it was actually confusing for us. Our GPS did not recognise Via Massetana, 70 and said it did not exist. It took 20 minutes but eventually we did find it. It is still a lot less effrot than having to park in Siena and parking is free. Would have no hesitation recommending this hotel for functionality and value for money.

Hotel San Marco worked well for us. The hotel was easily reached by car and had a large parking lot attached. The local bus was nearby and a quick ride got you to the center of the walled town where there was much to do and see. Bus tickets were available at the hotel. The staff at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful. Although the room was basic, it was clean, quiet and comfortable with a good sized bathroom. The European breakfast was adequate with fresh cappuccinos made for you. Good value for your money.
