“Friendly Hotel; Very Convienent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We were a group of six from Canada. In mid October, we took a ten day Celebrity cruise ship out of Rome but first spent some time in Sorrento and then Siena, where we stayed at the Hotel Italia. After comming from beautiful Sorrento, when we first approach the Hotel and the general area, it looked a bit disappointing. However, those thoughts quickly disappeared. The Hotel is catagorized as three star but it is quite adequate. The general rooms are basic and small and could be confining for some. We booked the upgraded room or suite for a very small additional charge and that was fine. The room was very clean and met our needs. The bathroom was obiviously upgraded and was very modern and impeccably clean. The staff spoke good english and were very friendly and helpful. I remember one woman at the front desk in particular. Her name was Julia. She was exceptionally helpful. Each morning of our stay we had an excellent buffet breakfast, which was included in the rate. A ten minute walk from our hotel took us to the begining of the historical area of Sienna. It was so facinating and interesting. It also had a wide array of shops and restaurants. We spent four nights there and never once was bored. In fact, it was delightful. Some of us took a tour of a local winery arranged by the Hotel staff. The Tuscan countryside is beautiful. The Hotel is less than ten minutes from the Train station and is near all services. There is a large Bank across the street from the Hotel with 24hr. ATM availability. Because we were a group of six, it was good value (and with luggage it was very convienent) to take a tour van from the Hotel door directly to the cruise port check in area, which was readily arranged for us by the Hotel staff. I believe the trip was two to three hours but a side benefit was the great sight seeing. There are hotels in the general area which are more up scale but is hard to surpass the Hotel Italia for hospitality, value, cleanliness - and most of all - location.

Room Tip: Ask for the upgraded room or suite. It is quite adequate and they only charge a small additional amo...

“Right by the train station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Very convenient to the train station, come out and just go up a set of escalators, once you pop out hotel is just on your right. The room is the largest room I have ever stayed in while in europe, that being said it was a nice room but if they made the room the slightest bit smaller they could have made the bathroom, mainly the shower a bit larger. I am a petit 5'3 and every time I turned I hit a wall in he shower, my husband was pretty miserable in the shower. Location of the train station was great but it was a bit far out from the city center around a 25minute walk. If you are able to catch a bus it is a 10 minute walk. It is not bad but certainly not the most convenient. I will say the entire staff was so friendly and VERY helpful! The spoke very good English and were very helpful in getting us places or recommending spots to eat. Hotel staff was great!!

Dear Heather,

thanks for sharing your opinion on Trip Advisor.
This is a historic building readjusted as an hotel. To make the room we had to follow the bearing walls scheme… and the room surfaces couldn’t be “regular size”
I’m so proud you enjoyed that much all my staff…I also think they’re incredible :-).
Hoping to welcome you again after the next renovation, we all wish you an incredible 2013.

“Good location but need some refurbishment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

We stayed in a "standard room" located on the ground floor in mid December. While it is located within 10 minutes walking distance to the historical sites, we found the hotel room dated, at least the one we were staying in. The heater was not working when we checked in but was swiftly repaired in a couple of hours. This was no fun when temperature plunged to zero degree during our visit. The walk in closet was also very dusty and we found dust on all the clothes hangar. This room must have been left vacant for a long time. The room also has no view what so ever other than a car which is parked next to our window. Bed was too soft as well.

While experience was disappointing, we noted that the "superior" rooms are more well furnished, at least on brochure. I guess one just need to pay more in a town with few hotel choices.

Room Tip: Don't take any rooms on the ground floor

Dear Bernard C,

thanks for your review that gives me the opportunity to answer and explain something more about Hotel Italia.
First of all I sincerely apologise for the heater problem even if it was quickly solved and for the dust as well, I’ll ask the maid to check immediately what was wrong in order to avoid this will happen again.
But you also complain about standard rooms saying they need refurbishment… YES! THEY NEED!

In fact on our web site you can read: STANDARD ROOMS: these are our “Senior Rooms” and have been partially renovated. For these reasons they have a cheaper and convenient price.
I think we were and we are very very clear, the choice was up to you.

What I’m surprised about, is you didn’t complain at all during your stay…I could have solved the matter finding for sure the right room for your needs. Now I just can read your review, answer, but nothing more.

Just to know…next January we will also refurbish the hall, the bar and the breakfast room…to go on with our Extreme Makeover, maybe you’ll appreciate and consider Hotel Italia for your next visit to Siena as well.

Best regards.

“More than a 3 Stars Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012 via mobile

This hotel is an excellent choice, well located, just a few minutes walk from the historic center and adjacent to the train station. Very very clean, offering a great hot breakfast with eggs and sausages and bacon. The room was really comfortable, quiet (only a few rooms are facing the street), spacious, spotless and as other guests already said well-appointed. The reception staff: friendly, with a sincere smile, polite, always helpful and extremely efficient.

Dear Geohar73,

thank you so much for your brilliant words about our hotel and our staff.

From the management to the reception and the cleaning staff, we work hard to make your stay pleasant from the beginning to the end and we always try to do it with a smile. If we get one back, it’s even better and our job becomes a pleasure.

After our make-over works in January, you should come back and see our new reception lobby and our new sound-proof windows in all of the hotel!!!

My very best regards from Siena,

Jannicke Lien

“Excellent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

The hotel is in a great location. It is just outside the city gate. Easy walk to old city. We stayed in the annex and it was quite nice and comfortable. Small inconvenience in having to go outside to go to main hotel for breakfast. Staff was very helpful in providing directions and recommendations for restaurants.

Dear Richard,

thank you so much for leaving a review about us. We really appreciate it.
The Historic Center of Siena is an Human Heritage of the World, so from the 60’s it is completely closed to traffic. I'm very glad you enjoyed our excellent location immediately out of the city walls, nearby the main gate, Porta Camollia.
All the Staff thank you for your compliments, hoping to greet you as our guest again, soon.
Sincere regards,

Federica Fiochi and the Staff
