“Must See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

The Cathedral in Siena is a beautiful medieval church with white and black marble stripes. There are some lovely works of art by Donatello, Bernini and Michelangelo inside the Cathedral. The architecture alone could keep you there. The recently discovered crypt beneath the Duomo makes this a must see if you're touring Siena and Tuscany in general. Apparently the crypt was never used for burials, and had not been seen for about 700 years. It opened to the public in 2003.

Siena is a a beautiful city in Tuscany and is famous for it Palio (horse race) in the Piazza del Campo.

The city does wind and there are a few slight hills to walk as you weave through the maze of caffes, shops, museums, and restaurants. Should you have any physical challenges, you may want to check before going on accommodations and facilities.

“Go see the P”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

When in Siena, after visiting the Duomo's crypt, make sure that you visit the Duomo and the fantastic pavements. Usually they are covered to avoid damages due to thousands od tourists walking over them, so, find out on the internet if they are visible and...go! The Battistero is also a must to visit while at the Duomo.

If you are looking at the Duomo, get the pass for all sights. This was totally cool. We loved it. No lines, no crowds.

“OMG!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

My daughter had to text my son in law and tell him to get me out of the cathedral b/c everyone else was waiting. What an incredibly beautiful, fascinating, and inspirational place. Gorgeous paintings, fascinating worship music texts, beautiful altars ... worth several hours for visiting.

“Stunning frescoes recently uncovered”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

Cathedral crypts are usually dark, airless and with low ceilings, but not here in Siena Cathedral. Ceilings were high and it was air conditioned. What were amazing were the frescoes showing the life of Jesus that were created in the 13th century. These were only discovered in the last 5 or 6 years and are beautiful. What a find.
