“Nice hotel, good location and breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

Located just a few minutes walk from the center of Siena, this hotel was a good choice for 1-2 nights. Right next to the soccer stadium behind the hotel, we had nice views and quiet nights as long as there was no soccer game that evening (there wasn't). Staff were helpful and friendly and spoke great English. We left our bags in the morning after checkout, walked around, then took the train back down the hill to Florence which picked us up just blocks away (the bus is slightly quicker than the train, but you have to go down beneath the street to purchase tickets).

This pictures of this hotel on Internet do not do it justice. It is like stepping in a charming, tastefully decorated home. Large public spaces, a lovely back terrace, a smaller one in the front on the second floor. Large rooms, large breakfast room. Highly polished, accommodating staff. It is located on a Main Street on the edge of the old city; but traffic is very, very light. The bus stop is up the street, so easy access to transportation to other hill towns. Entrance to the inner city a few steps aways, as is San Domenico Church-- hearing the tolling of the bells is wonderful. We loved it here on the five days we were in Sienna. And, the rates are reasonable, given the high quality of the establishment. Don't miss the chocolate croissants at breakfast.

About 50 rooms in this nicely appointed, neoclassical, historic, villa. Convenient location but on a busy street. All major sites are within a 10-20 minute walk. There is traffic noise, light from the stadium (sometimes), and town noise too. That said, we kept both our windows open and were able to sleep given our busy days. You can request a room in the rear which will help the noise to some extent.

A side note, our bathroom had a step up which we found to be a bit of booby trap in the dark at night. Just need to remember it is there!

Church bells start at 7 a.m. from a very nearby church (San Domenico). Breakfast was adequate with good choice. Free wifi. Doubles are about 150 euros.

I liked this hotel so well I booked here again. For starters, it is a 3 minute walk from the bus terminal. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the soccer field and we were situated in what I think was an ideal locale. In 5-10 minutes, we could be at the main piazza, site of the famous il Palio (which I am attending this summer). But we took two day trips and so our guide could park right in front of the hotel to pick us (cars are not allowed in most of Siena. We were also located about 100' from Basilca San Domenico (see my review) and the home of Saint Catherine was a 3 minute walk. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast among the best in our travels. If you were lucky, you could dine on the terrace though it filled up rather quickly. We had heard that this hotel was noisy and you could hear carousing at night. Those reviews recommended a room in the back which we requested and received. Those same reviews indicated the noise came from bar activity and even though we came in at all hours, I never detected such. And I honestly looked for it. Our room was simply appointed but very nice and clean with a small frig and nice view. The internet did not always work reliably but it was tolerable. The winding staircase up was a hike (they had an elevator) but worth it because it was an architectural work of art that just invited you up and down it. I would, highly, highly, highly recommend this hotel when traveling to Siena.

Room Tip: Although we did not notice the noise, request a room in the back overlooking the futbol field.

This hotel was a good value in Siena. Our room was clean, spacious, and well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel does not have its own parking, as parking is very scarce in Siena. The staff can direct you to a nearby parking lot where there is no charge. We enjoyed the breakfast, although the push button coffee dispenser can get a little jammed up when there are lots of people trying to get kick-started for the day. It was a great place to stay and we would go back.

We stayed at the Chiusarelli for several days in the winter and I would stay here again. It is really conveniently located, not at all far from the "center" of things. Walking distance to everything (with lots of steep climbs...) The hotel is charming, lots of marble inside, old furnishings, etc. We had a good-sized triple room -- a queen and a single bed -- facing the street, beds on the firm side, a large bathroom with shower/bath. Comfortable. Breakfast was ample: a lot of nice fresh fruit on offer, ham, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, yogurts, etc. I can't comment on noise or lack of breakfast offerings because off-season, it was quiet and large groups of visitors were absent. The staff were very helpful and overall, we had a great visit.

We try to stay in nicer hotels at the end of our trips as a treat and although this was one of the more expensive three-star hotels, it was disappointing. The location was very good and we could walk everywhere, but the hotel or at least our room was tired looking with had no conveniences like a dresser or even a luggage rack, no shampoo, shower gel or lotion aside from some little packets of combination shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The bed was firm which we prefer over soft, but there was no top sheet over the blanket and only one extra pillow for the three of us. The bathroom was clean and although there was a shower, there was no shower curtain or door so whenever one of us showered, the floor was soaked. We had to use the towels to clean up the wet floor. I'm wondering if others had to do the same and that would explain why the towels didn't look very clean. The front desk staff was very nice and helped us get our bags to our third floor room and we were grateful for that since there was no elevator. I know it was an old villa, but I don't think it was stated that there was no elevator in the description. I hope that there will be some restoration to this lovely place in the future, but as is, I don't think I would recommend it to a friend.
