What a place: rather small, 3 tables only, and in my opinion serving authentic Senese food. Different kind of antipasti consisting of the most delicious cheeses and cold cuts. Also one or two pasta's available. Of course house wine from a water glass. Very simple but genuine quality served by friendly and hospital people. Go find this place and enjoy!

“Amazing!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Il Grattacielo is well worth seeking out, don't be put off by the location!
We had 2 amazing platters of Sienese antipasti consisting of 10 different items ranging from fennel salami, smoked fish, spelt and tomato salad, pecorino cheese to name but a few. Along with a basket of bread, pasta paparadelle with sausage and courgette, litre of water, half litre of wine, followed by some Vino Santo and cantucci biscotti to finish all for €32.
The flavours were wonderful and service good.
One of the highlights of our visit to Siena!!

“Tiny delicious tavern, fortunately survived in the heart of most tourist Siena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

If you don't know it is there and so don't look for it, it's hard you run into it by accident. It is in a covered walkway, lateral to "Via Banchi di Sopra", the busiest shopping street of the old town. You eat sitting at the same table with other guests, and however the three tables which are available inside fill up very soon. It offers assortments of ham, vegetables, tasting of Tuscan recipes as "Farro" (spelt) and "Ribollita", and so on. Very appreciable the unique dish at a fixed price.

“Authentic and economical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

Not where we were heading but it started to tip down with rain so took potluck. It is a tiny lively place and we were put at a table with a charming couple from near Milan. One hot dish on offer each day and that day is was sweetbreads. Not what I would normally order but with a picante and a green sauce it was very tasty and perfect with the carafe of red wine and bread. There is also the choice of the cold meats, cheeses and other "deli" items on the counter. All in it was €18 for two people and by the time we finished the rain had stopped ( not guaranteed with each visit!) and we had some different people sharing our table with us.
I can imagine in season tables must be at a real premium so you may need to be patient. Something of an experience and a million kilometres from some posey tourist places with exaggeratedly long pepper-grinders! Worth a try.

“Local gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Great service from friendly locals willing to explain the nuances of the menu, portions were a little small but filling nonetheless due to the richness of the food. The offers available such as wine inclusive with a Tuscan plateful and bread for £10 were good.
