Owner description: The magnificent complex of the Cathedral of Siena, its Duomo, houses a series of some of the most important monuments of the European artistic panorama. With its more than one million visitors every year, the Cathedral without a doubt represents the fulcrum of the entire complex, while other significant elements include the Crypt, the Baptistery and the Museo dell'Opera, all part of the impressive mass formed by the "Duomo Vecchio" (Old Cathedral), and the "Duomo Nuovo" (New Cathedral). Visitors will travel along a memorable itinerary to the discovery of self and the truth of faith through culture and art, the result of more than a millennium of Western history.

“Amazing Cathedral in spectacular setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Having visited the cathedral in Florence i thought there would be little left to impress me in siena. How wrong could i be. The cathedral is an unfinished masterpiece of romanesque mixed with classical architecture. Whereas the spledour of the Duomo in florence is the exterior this cathedral in Siena is sumptiously decorated throughtout the interior. There are frescos and statues at every turn. Well worth a visit.

“Awesome cathedral”

The architecture is amazing! A must see when coming to Sienna. Plan several hours, as you will want time for photos and to experience the local area as well.

“A must inside and out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

An interesting thing occurred while the cathedral was being built in Siena, they ran out of money and had to change their design. You can still see how large this cathedral was going to be, by looking at the unfinished portion of the naive which stands outside of the cathedral.
The interior of the cathedral is breathtaking, the use of the various colored marbles is exquisite. A must see.

“Siena, city and cathedral”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Whilst on holiday in Florence in late March, we took a coach tour arranged by Ciaoflorence, taking in Monteriggioni, Siena, San Gimignano and a wine tasting in the Chianti region. Monteriggioni is a small fortified hilltop village of just fifty inhabitants, much the same today as in medieval times, when of strategic importance in the conflict between Florence and Siena. After a quick stop here, we motored on to Siena, were our excellent tour guide, Giulio, handed us over to a colleague who gave us a guided walking tour of the city, beginning at the Piazza del Campo, where the history and importance of Siena in Medieval and Renaissance times was outlined to us. We then visited the beautiful, marble faced cathedral before rejoining Guilio for the very reasonably priced and excellent lunch he had arranged for us in a local restaurant. After this we journeyed to San Gimignano where we walked arround at our own leisure before our wine tasting in Chianti. The whole outing was most enjoyable, and we would highly recommend it to anyone lucky enough to be holidaying in Florence.

“Amazing attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Entry is free over winter (November to February) otherwise 4 Euro or can be combined under a SI pass for 12 Euro. We opted for the cheaper option and were happy with what we saw. That said, We visited on Good Friday and it didn't seem right to be charging entry to a Christian Church on that day. They seen to be offering something for sale at every turn (Audio booth 2 Euro for 2 minutes!) but if you look past tht you will be rewarded.
Detail here is stunning, there doesn't seen to be any square inch of the place that hasn't been subject to a master craftsman - Pictures are great but you really need to see this for yourself. Don't miss the library (See separate review) as it is amazing.
