“Incredible! You have to stay here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

From the moment my sister and I arrived we felt like we had come 'home'. Growing up in an Italian family we were greeted with a warm and friendly embrace from Elizabeta and Mario. They got us setted in our room and helped us strategize on how to see all the different cities we wanted to visit. In less than an hour after we arrived, Mario was driving us to Siena and highlighted the places we should see. He also made our dinner reservation that night at an incredible restaurant. The next two days Mario and Elizabeta arranged a private tour guide for us, (Corrado /Tourstuscany) and checked in everyday to make sure we were happy. Because my sister and I are dog lovers, Runa, the family German Shepard gave us lots of love and attention so we could get our 'doggie-fix' while we were away. Truly, Mario and Elizabeta make you feel like you are home. We will definetly be back and tell all our friends about Mattonata. Thank you so much Eliabeta and Mario. See you soon!!! Annemarie & Adele

We spent two nights here celebrating our honeymoon. The rooms were spacious as was the bathroom too. We first noticed how quiet it was and we really needed that after spending 5 nights in Florence. The owner, Mario was very kind and took good care of us while we were there. We didn't have a car and he was kind of enough to drop us in the city for dinner. A taxi back to the Relais was about 15 euros. The breakfast was ample and they provided cereal, yogurt, cheese, meat and pastries. We would stay hear again when we return to Tuscany in the future and use this place as a jumping off point for exploring the rest of the area. I would recommend a car if you plan to visit other nearby Tuscan towns, but the city of Siena is close by and we both loved that city too.

Previous reviews have described the creature comforts, location, breakfast, etc most accurately.
We have traveled extensively and use Trip Advisor whose reviews we have found to be most helpful.
What distinguished Aia Mattonata from other stays was the abundant, gracious, and genuinely warm hospitality of Mario and Elizabeta. They went out of their way for us and all their guests, to make sure that we enjoyed the best of Siena including excellent restaurants recommendations, and suggested itineraries. We enjoyed them so much that we invited them to stay with us when they visit California.

Room Tip: Ask for the one whose windows give you a great view of Siena

We do not comment on TripAdvisor very often, but my wife and I would really like to provide potential guests with a view on Aia Mattonata.
Fist of all, our stay was amongst the best moments of our trip to Italy, particularly due to the attention of the owners, Mario and Elizabetta, who are really friendly. We see that they care about guests' comfort, being professional and warming at the same time. They provided us with very interesting tips to explore Siena and Tuscany and helped us with restaurants, museums and other tourist attractions. Service was really outstanding!
Worth mentioning the high degree of care in the conservation of the property and in the cleanliness. It is a very comfortable accommodation.
Breakfast was very good.
We strongly recommend it!

We absolutely loved this B&B. We knew this was going to be good when we arrived and found our hostess picking tomatoes for the next days breakfast. Outstanding service, beautiful property, outstanding views to relax and enjoy with a bottle of wine at the end of the day on the patio. The location just outside of Siena was perfect, allowing us safe secure parking for the rental car. Every day we awoke to the smell of fresh baked pastries, part of an outstanding buffet breakfast (much more than your usual Italian breakfast) followed by our host Mario helping us plan our day sharing his experience, providing maps, routes, and business cards of suggested restaurants including making reservations when needed - the perfect host! Can't wait to return some day!

We had learned of this place through TripAdvisor and decided to stay for 2 nights. As it turns out, this was a great find.

The location is just outside Siena which makes it very convenient (about 2 miles). Also by not staying in Siena, you don't have to worry about parking, the car issue and dragging your suitcase through the winding, uphill streets of town.

The property overlooks the Tuscan countryside and gives great views of Siena in the distance. There's only a few rooms so its peaceful and quite. The farmhouse is old but inside the rooms are very comfortable (including the bed) and have an up-to-date bathroom. I swam in the pool one morning which was quite nice.

Breakfast was decent and served in an outside covered porch (can be uncovered for sun also).

If you're looking for nightlife, you can go into Siena. If you want to have a night cap once you return to Mattonata, just bring back a bottle of wine and drink outside while looking at the stars.

Great jumping off point whether you visit Siena or want to tour the Tuscan countryside.

We would visit again.

After extensive research on where to stay in Siena, we decided on Aia Mattonata based on the great reviews from Trip Advisor. We rented a car in Siena and our plans were to travel around Tuscany to the many great little cities in the area. This B&B surpassed our expectations and we can honestly tell you that we would not have changed anything about this place. The views of Siena are spectacular, the rooms are perfect and Mario and Elizabetta and their staff are superb. You will leave this place feeling as though you are leaving best friends in Mario and Elizabetta. Driving in Italy was not as stressful as we had imagined but we could not have made it without our GPS. Many of the streets and roads are not marked well with signs so having the GPS was a life saver. We took the Sena bus from Rome to Siena which was about a 3 hour trip but you will encounter great views and sights along the way. If you like B&B's, you will love this place. If you have never stayed in a B&B, they don't get any better than this. We were sad to leave but hope to get back there someday. We miss this place already and hated to leave. Grazie, Mario and Elizabetta for making our trip the best ever!
