“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

We were only going to stay one night and then stayed 3 more nights because we felt so at home. Carla and her daughter, Frederika, were lovely hostesses and very helpful in making sure we saw all of their favorite spots during our stay. The house is beautiful and immaculately clean with gorgeous antique furniture throughout and original travertine marble steps. Breakfast includes homemade breads and pastries and is served with cappuchino in their picturesque garden overlooking the valley. It is about a 20-30min easy uphill walk into the walled city of Siena nearby making it a wonderful base from which to visit Siena and explore the nearby Tuscan countryside.

My friend and I had a lovely, two night stay here in a twin room in this beautiful farmhouse. We were impressed by its character, cleanliness and comfort. Federica, the owner, is truly delightful, very kind and accommodating. She also speaks very good English. The house is located a stone's throw from one of the main 'gates' to Siena, Porta Tufi, but is set in beautiful gardens and the countryside. There is a bus stop directly opposite and we hopped on this one of the evenings up to Siena. It only took a couple of minutes. Otherwise, the walk is not at all difficult. Can guarantee that you would not go wrong in choosing to stay here. It's a real gem of a find.

We stayed at this B&B for 6 days in April of 2012 and it was a highlight of our 2 week trip to Italy. Those expecting a 5 star hotel with full services look elsewhere. Those looking for a true bed and breakfast that has character, is clean and wonderful owner/operators with big hearts, reserve at least 2-3 nights here.

We used this B&B as a base in exploring Siena and greater Tuscany. It is centrally located, but as others said, it is about a ten minute walk to central Siena.. only 5 minutes or os are on a fairly busy road with a small shoulder. In 6 days, we walked this road many many times and was never a real issue... 75% of the walk is beautiful and it helped us burn off the daily helpings of wine and pasta. Siena is a beautiful medieval town with great restaurants worthy of several days of exploring.

The B&B is run by Federica and her mom Carla. They prepare basic breakfast with homemade jams and cakes, daily. They make wonderful coffee and every request is returned with a smile or an infectious laugh... these two have huge hearts and truly make the stay a very memorable experience.

The facilities are not luxurious, but well above basic expectations. Several evenings, we used their kitchen to prepare cheeses, tomatoes, proscuitto and wine and had a predinner snack on their rustic patio overlooking the orchard.

You should only hesitate in booking this B&B if you want to be in the town of Siena ( this B&B is about a mile walk) and if a small amount of highway noise will bother you. Otherwise, it's a no-brainer and I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Siena.

Our night in Siena at Podere le Vigne was beautiful. Federica is a fantastic host - sweet, warm, helpful. The room was very large and had everything we needed. Location is fantastic being so close to Siena, but being far enough away that you enjoy all the quiet and serenity.

The only down side - we only had 1 night!!!

I came to this place with my girlfriend and her parents with the intentions of having a nice place nearby Siena. The place was settled on a hillside and had plenty of room to stretch your legs. The views were so gorgeous! Rolling hills, vineyards, typical Tuscany. The main Tufi gate into Siena is maybe 3/4 mile away and at one point we walked it without much of a problem. The owner is SO KIND!! She was more than willing to share anything with anyone with a smile on her face. She speaks a surprising amount of English, makes homemade breakfast and "lives" right next door during the day so she can be available upon request. She offered me fresh walnuts, homemade jams and breads, fresh coffee and milk among other things. When we asked her about a bus into town, she said to just hop in the car so she could take us. Where else can you get that kind of personal service? Certainly not a hotel! When we got there, there was a slight problem with our reservation (we asked for 2 and only 1 was listed) and she gave us a 2nd room no problem. When we left, they said thank you a thousand times over and took our picture in front of the entrance. Very wonderful service, the best i've ever had in my 2 years in Italy. If you read this far and you're considering staying here, you might as well book with her because if you don't, you're a fool.

My basic belief when I get a chance to travel somewhere special is to try and get as much of the local flavour as possible. And it's always worked for us. So choosing Podere Le Vigne to stay at over a regular star hotel chain was a step in this direction, one we didn't regret.

Run by mother & daughter, Carla & Federica Cipriani, it's charming, old-world style. Just a handful of rooms (non-AC, but we didn't miss the AC), prettily done up with old-style furniture and plenty of space. Some rooms, like the one we stayed in (#5) could even fit three. The bathroom was small but everything was new & worked perfectly. We really enjoyed the charming homely breakfasts each morning...Federica's cakes and tarts, with her special jams made from their own trees,(I loved the fig jam) breads, cornflakes and fresh-brewed coffee. I really don't understand people who come to Europe and complain they aren't getting an American breakfast!)

You do really benefit from having a car, though it's not too far from town. There aren't any stores around...it's a farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside after all! And the sound of traffic from the not-too-far highway was the only noise we sometimes heard except for birds in the trees. The sunset was awesome and the September weather brilliant, so we even had breakfast in the garden, under the trees.
If you fancy nature walks or runs without dodging traffic, this place is perfect!People we met staying at the same time were also so much more relaxed and friendly than people you might meet at a more impersonal hotel.

One evening when we were tired after a lot of driving, we decided to stay home with a bottle of wine, some meats and cheeses and dine al fresco, on the deck, surrounded by greenery. Great decision!
Carla & Federica also gave us wonderful reccos for eating out around Tuscany, and each was spot on. Very helpful, warm folk, and we're happy we stayed there!

Room Tip: Room #5 was charming, got the sun both morning & evening. Most rooms are upstairs. I wrote to Fe...

Two miles from downtown Siena, in the southern area where you are already in the gorgeous countryside. My room was big, clean and owners really kind. You can rest in a beautiful garden. To reach Siena, wich is located 2km uphill, the best you can di is to catch a bus just in front of the B&B. Breakfast in the garden was just perfect.
