“An Amazing & Intimate Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

When planning our honeymoon in Italy a friend told us how great Donatella's wine tour was when they were in Italy. Since I had been to Siena and Tuscany before I wanted us to try something different than where I had been before.

Wow! We were really glad that we did this! Donatella was so much fun. We especially loved how she talked with her hands like a good Italian. Ha! And we went to the most amazing out of the way places down dirt roads deep in the Brunello region south of Siena. We basked in panoramic views of The Tuscan countryside as we snacked on goat cheese and fruit, drank the most amazing Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines and dined on the most amazing food at lunch.

After our 12 day tour of central and northern Italy we definitely think Donatella's tour will be one of our most memorable parts of our honeymoon. Thank you Donatella!

“A MUST... So worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

My wife and I took a Brunello Wine Tour in Tuscany with Donatella in late September. The tour left promptly from Siena for the day with eight of us, headed to Montalcino, where we would spend the day tasting some of the finest wines in the world (Brunello) and getting a wonderful education and feel for the lifestyle in the process.

Our tour guide, Donatella, is a lovely spirited lady with a great deal of knowledge of the areas, the history, as well as the wine and winemaking process. Her English is very good and she gladly will field all sorts of questions about just about anything Italian--be sure you learn about her "contrada" and the great horse race in Siena.

Over the course of the day, we covered 3 wineries--all with beautiful wines and vineyards--and we had the most authentic Tuscan lunch experience you could imagine. The first stop was a lovely, small family-run vineyard that only produced about 10,000 bottles/year and we tasted 3 wines and spent time with the daughter of the winemaker, who gave us a full tour and answered our questions. Next stop was a "medium-sized" producer that was much larger (over 100,000 bottles) and tasted 3-4 wines and got a great tour of their facilities, which were a bit more "high tech."

We broke for lunch at what appeared to be a farm, but we sat in what was basically a professional kitchen and a room that housed an old, giant olive press that the owner still uses to make his own olive oil. I asked if it was a "restaurant" but this is not somewhere you could ever experience without Donatella's tour. The food was amazing--one of our favorite meals in two weeks in Italy! Fresh, hand made pasta, squash, veal… it was all fantastic, meanwhile peacocks strutted their gorgeous feathers for us, just outside.

Our final stop was a vineyard run by a husband and wife--the wife happened to be British--and they were smack in the middle of harvest that day! It was an amazing experience to witness the intensity of harvest-time, as most vineyards wouldn't let tourists anywhere near during harvest, since it is truly an "all-hands-on-deck" situation for most of these smaller producers. But, not Katia, who took a break out of her hectic day to share the process with us, and taste some of their beautiful Brunello.

Donatella returned us to Siena after an amazing journey and we couldn't have been more pleased. We have been to a number of self-guided tastings and vineyards in California, and around the US, but this was our first guided tour. I went in with a good deal of wine knowledge and left with so much more, as well as a passion for the lifestyle and industry that may ultimately lead me down a new path! When I initially signed up, I was a somewhat hesitant because it was a bit spendy; however, you have to understand that for the most part--you can't put an experience like this together on your own and expect to just show up at these smaller vineyards unannounced for tastings. Nor would you get to enjoy the artisan lunch, or the wonderful company and stories of Donatella... It is truly a unique experience, worth every euro.

We returned 3 weeks ago from a memorable trip to Toscana. We stayed in Siena without a car, so we took a tour to Brunello with Donatella. If you have only a couple days in Toscany I highly recommend Donatella.- her knowledge of the area and her tour of the Brunello region is tops. We visited 3 wineries all were truly amazing, hospitable and charming hosts.
we are definitely planning another trip to Toscana perhaps next year and would definitely contact Donatella again to tour another region of the are.
BRAVA Donatella and thank you for a beautiful and most enjoyable tour.

“Donatella Covers It All!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

All the previous reviews on Trip Advisor are absolutely true. Donatella makes Tuscany come alive. Our wine tour was very educational..historic locations, organic cheese making, olive oil and wine production. And, it was FUN!! Donatella has lots of stories blended with tons of information. She knows her way around..the only way to travel. She met us at our hotel in Siena and we were off for a day in the Brunello wine region of Tuscany. We all enjoyed cheese, olive oil and wine tasting as well as the delicious and abundant lunch we had at an organic farm. We highly recommend a tour with Donatella.
Warmest regards,

“Excellent tour of Brunelo region”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We did this tour while on our honeymoon and could not have asked for a better experience. Donatella picked us up in a comfortable van, and made sure to engage everyone in conversation. Our first stop was an organic farm that produced their own cheese. We had a sit down breakfast consisting of great cheese, bread and preserves alongside locally made wine. We then visited several wineries of various sizes all of which made excellent Brunelo wine. We were able to speak to the wine makers who explain their individual process and answered all our questions. Traditional Tuscan lunch was to die for :)
