“Relaxing lunch”

While the service is not fast, quality and selection of food and friendlyness of staff are convincing.

“Nice find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

Osteria del Gato is a wonderful restaurant frequented by locals. The menu is in Italian and the waiter didn't speak much English but enough to get the essence across to us. The wine selection is very good and priced reasonably. We went for a late lunch at about 1:30 and we stayed until 3. The service was very good and the food was excellent. The white bean bruschette with pancetta was fabulous! Simple but soooo flavorful. My wife had tagliatelle with tomato, ricotta, and basil (Tagliatelle con Pomodoro Ricotta e Basilico) and it was delicious. I had the ravioli in a sage-butter sauce (Ravioli Maremmani Burro e Salvia) and I wish I had had two servings! As we were drinking our cappuccino, our waiter brought over some delicious fig walnut biscottis. As I was dipping one in my coffee, the waiter pointed to mine wine and mimed dunking the biscotti in it instead. I was hesitant to dunk a cookie in the very nice Rosso di Montalcino I was enjoying but wow, what a great suggestion! Can't wait to return.

“A quaint restaurant inside the walls of Siena”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

My wife and two adult daughters visited this restaurant while we were staying in Siena. It is important to call ahead for reservations as the dining area is a bit small and they look like they fill up each night. The menu is hand-written and offers about six primo and six secondari along with some appetizers and dulce. This may seem limited but the mix was very good and it speaks to the ability to focus on cooking some excellent food. The menu is only in Italian but the owner and waiter spoke good English and happily helped us translate. For our ten days in Italy, the pasta dishes in Osteria del Gatto were the best we had for our entire trip; so good that we ordered a second pasta dish to share. Prices were very reasonable, dining area is not large (felt quite cozy and comfortable), the food was simply amazing, and the staff was appropriately attentive. The restaurant is located near the Porta San Marco on the southwest edge of town but inside the walls of the city; an easy walk. Make this a stop if you are in Siena.

“Classic Hole in the Wall Neighborhood Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

Just a five minute walk from Il Campo, this small restaurant serves up good Sienese home cooked cuisine. Expect most of the customers to be locals. Their ravioli was fantastic as was the mixed sausage plate I had. They serve an excellent local red wine by the glass or carafe. In typical Italian fashion, the wine is served in small "jelly" glasses. No frills just good food and good service.

“Terrific osteria”

This was recommended by the B&B Duomo owners and certainly was worth the effort of finding it.
