“Beautiful Countryside and Incredible Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2008

Agriturismo Marciano was a wonderful experience. The views of the Tuscan country side from your window will be great. Don't expect a TV in your room, or a five star hotel. Do expect a stay on a working winery, with staff who will treat you like a best friend.

If you get a chance to have the dinner and wine tasting - take it! The food was amazing, a real taste of Italian home cooking.

Dr. Christian Betti was especially nice during our stay - recommending restaurants, setting up wine tastings, and just being a very friendly person.

I can't recommend Agriturismo Marciano highly enough.

If you want to stay at an agriturismo, but still be close to a city, this is a great option. Located within a 10 minute drive to the parking lot in Siena, Agriturismo Marciano offers the agriturismo atmosphere with the convenience of a short drive to have dinner in Siena. My husband and I stayed here in October and used it as a base for day trips around Tuscany, which worked out very well. In addition, Christian, who runs the accomodations there, speaks English and was very helpful, always ready with recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. He even called wineries for us to make reservations on our behalf. Our room was a little small, but very clean, cozy and welcoming. A computer with internet is available to guests and they do allow guests to use their washing machine. Breakfast was included and consisted of choice of coffee or tea, cereal, yogurt, toast with various jams, juice, and freshly baked cakes. We had a nice tour of the winery there and tasted many of their wines. Our favorite part though, was probably the dinners we had there (we liked it so much, we did it twice). While they are not available every night, if there are enough guests interested, a 4 course dinner can be arranged through Christian, which is served at the communal table in the kitchen. The ingredients are all fresh local ingredients, many of which came from the garden at the agriturismo, and the preparation was very good. The meal includes wine pairings and our dinner group had such a great time that we found we were all sad when dinner came to an end. The agriturismo can be a little difficult to find, but if you have a GPS, it is not a problem. We were very happy with our stay here.

Let me start off by saying: GREAT STAY!

I was curious to read the previous post about why they didn't enjoy Agriturismo Marciano like we did. My husband and I stayed there for 4 nights In Oct, and we enjoyed our stay quite a bit! The room was clean, yes, the towels were a bit stiff, but what's wrong to those who love their land and environment, so they hang dry their laundry without using any fabric softener. And I actually have great respect for it. There wasn't any obvious sign on where to check in, but we had no problem with it, in fact we enjoyed this place being different than a normal hotel or B&B. We felt like we were going to visit a far relative, who cooked us authentic Tuscan meal each night, and who told us all the tricks and tips to travel around Tuscany like a local.

When we arrived, we went into the living room, and saw no one at first, but just like visiting your uncle Perry, we yelled: Good afternoon, we have finally arrived. Chistian came out with a smile, and he was a great host for the rest of our stay. Nadia did not feel well enough during the first few days, so it was unfortunate that I did not get to learn to cook from her. Renato surprisingly was a spa goer who guided us to a near by therme for an afternoon fun.

The property itself has a lot of charms. We especially enjoyed the conversations with other guests and Christian about food and wine while we were feasting on a fantastic Tuscan dinner that cooked up by Nadia and Renato. O.. did I mentioned about drinking their amazing Chianti wines all night and pouring their flavorful olive oil all over our pasta? For people who are interested in staying with them, having dinner with them is an activity not to be miss. They have a computer for guest use, so you can check your emails or research the next day activities.

One morning, we got up early, so we watched the sunrise from our window. The view was amazing, the air was super fresh, and it was so Tuscany! The location was far enough to feel like being away, but close enough to the town of Siena. It was our hub to explore other hill towns in Tuscany, and it worked out perfect. The stay came with breakfast: toast, juice, GOOD coffee and yogurt. Great conversation was never a lacking. The room and bathroom were large and comfortable enough. I don't think everything has to be American super-sized to be able to feel good. We were told the water from the faucet was coming straight from the mountain, so it was safe to drink. We did and it actually tasted really good.

Christian's knowledge about their products, wine making and organic living blew us away. This group of friends, all share great passion about what they produce and their land. Seeing how they run their place is a great reminder on sometimes how wasteful we are, and how little respect we have for our nature.

At the end of our stay, we bought 2 bottles of their wine to take home, because we liked it so much. We had such a good time that we already thought of going back next year. This place is definitely a great place for those who are into real authentic travel experience, those who respects other cultures, those who enjoy great company or for those who like great food and wine as much as we do.

We spent 4 nights with Nadia and Christian at Agriturismo Marciano. They were so friendly & helpful, and made us feel right at home! Our room was very nice with it's own bath. Dinner on Tuesday night was wonderful, prepared by Nadia and paired with Christian's wines. We rented a GPS from Christian which he had progammed with directions to everything we wanted to see and then back home again. That was a life saver!!! They both speak English which was very helpful. We highly recommend them and plan to visit them again in the future!

If you want your stay in Siena Italy to be a home away from home, then Agriturismo Marciano is the bed and breakfast for you. Nadia, her brother Dr. Christian Betti, along with their uncle and Nadia’s husband, make you feel that way in their lovely establishment surrounded by wine vineyards and olive orchards. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the views are exactly what you would want in Tuscany.
Gathering with the other guests in the family room for wine in the afternoon makes it feel like your own home. You are sure to pick up useful tourist information from everyone that shares the breakfast table too. They are even accommodating if you have food preferences.
Nadia’s dinners are magnificent. My birthday dinner was better than any other on my whole trip (from Venice through Sorrento). Dr. Christian and Nadia helped my children, via e-mails back and forth to New York, arrange a birthday celebration and even shopped for a beautiful gift on the children’s behalf.
Dr. Christian showed us, with enthusiasm, the wine making process since we were there in October. You can sense his pride in his extraordinary wines and understandably so.
It’s a great travel base for day trips to all Tuscany villages and it avails itself to just relaxing in the courtyard.
You cannot go wrong with this choice.

September 2008
Two month have gone since we visited this beautiful place with a hospital and very welcoming staff.
Today, september 28th we have loocked through our photoes from the stay, - and we still think that this is really a place we would like to visit again..

We were looking for a hollidaystay at internet and the photos shown helped us to chose this special place. We had luckely booked the "Suite" for 6 days and we had a romantic and relaxing stay, and the shown photoes on the web site were not at all lying. The "suite" was beatiful and the view through the windows were breathtaking....

Dr. Betty, one of the owners, was very helpful and had alot of knowledge about the farm, the grapes, the wine and the olives.
He was together with Irene making our stay excellent.

Irene - thank you for making our stay very special. We will never forget you..... ;-)
We will specially thank you for serving us breakfast every morning and for two very good dinners in the kitchen of the farm together with the other guests..

The farm was lending out mountainbikes and we were riding every day to the old town of Siena. We also recommend riding to Montereggioni, the small village 15 km north west of Siena.

All in all... - this was 6 wonderful days and our vacation will be remembered.... always...

Best regards from Merete and Geir in Norway...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dr. Christian Betti and his staff were great hosts. Christian provided us with a tour of the beautiful winery (and being a Ph.D. in agriculture, he was very knowledgeable!) and provided us with multiple glasses of their wine on the house! They also provided us with use of their mountain bikes, which we rode into Sienna (about 15 minutes), and they let us use their laundry machine. Christian also gave us some really great ideas about where to eat in Sienna and what to do in and around Sienna.

The grounds and rooms were very well kept. On some nights they will provide a full home-cooked meal served with their wines (we were told by others that their glasses were being constantly filled). You should make sure to notify Christian ahead of time if you are interested. We did not get to participate, but we heard from others that it was great.
