“Comfortable and family-like stay in S.Gimignano”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Comfortable, family-run hotel, 5 min.walk from the old town S.Gimignano. Clean and nice furnished rooms with TV, mini-bar and free Wifi. Free parking, garden and swimming-pool. Continental breakfast. Take a chat with the owners to get suggestions about sightseeings and food and enjoy a wonderful view of the hills. From here you can easily reach many places, such as Siena, Pisa, Firenze, Certaldo and so on.

In an attempt to see the "real" Italy, we began our trip in San Gimignano and booked five days at the Villa Belvedere. We very much liked our room, enjoyed the excellent breakfasts, and felt that the various family members had welcomed us into their circle. This is not a spot with flash and dash, but it is comfortable, clean and friendly. It is also well located just outside the town walls. We would certainly stay there again.

The hotel is situated approximately 500 meters from the entrance of the old town.
When compared with approximately 5-6 nearby hotels we've checked, they were worse, or worse and more expensive. The hotel was originally built and designed as a hotel, which has a fairly big garden and carpark, but now is old and badly needs restoration. Overlooks the nice valley view. The hotel is run by kind and decent people. The breakfast was poor. Even though it seems moderately priced, it still is overpriced. The only excuse is the carpark, and worse hotels nearby. Try staying within the town walls or other sides of the town.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel after searching for something within walking distance from San Gimignano. The location, and the pool, were just about the only positive thing about this hotel.

Boyfriend and I woke up in the middle of the night in panic. Our room was filled up with smoke and a terrible smell of ammoniac. As we started to realize there was something wrong we quickly threw on clothes, grabbed all of our stuff and ran outdoors in the fresh air. No one was at the reception, and I tried calling their number. After a while a man who only knew italian appeared and threw out the old refrigerator.

It seemed to be the old refrigerator that was leaking ammoniac. Which is highly intoxicating! Thank god we woke up!

After spending 3 hours outdoors, the owner shows up again and says it's fine to use the room again. No way was our reply, we didn't wanna go back at all. Of course we did not wanna pay for the night, and at any other hotel, they would do anything to fix this horrible mess. But not this hotel.

Warning! The owner was extremely unfriendly, screaming and saying we slept 5 hours and consistently said it was not his fault the refrigerator broke. After 15 minutes of arguing with the owner, which we all felt threatened by (screaming, throwing things), the wife of the owner stepped in and let us get that night for free.

Would not ever recommend this hotel to anyone, and we just thank our lucky stars that we are ok, I can't even start thinking about what would have happened if we had not woken up.

DO NOT BOOK! Terrible hotel, dirty, small rooms, extremely unfriendly staff and absolutely the worst hotel we've ever stayed at.

We looked at a few hotels on line before driving to San Gimignano where we thought we would book a hotel on our own.

We drove by the Belvedere which I remembered from searching on line.

The location is great. You can park your car in their lot and with a 10 minute walk be in the heart of the old city. The rooms were quiet, clean and the wifi connection (free) worked great.

The staff was friendly, the breakfast good and we could not have been more pleased with our stay.

My boyfriend and I were on a car excursion and we had a night stopover in Villa Belvedere hotel in San Gimiganno that is a gorgeous italian village. The staff is friendly the place is beautiful with a nice garden and a restaurant there. It is good that they provide 24h reception and a safe parking place supervised by cameras. recommended!

We have just returned from our stay at the Villa Belvedere in San Gimignano and thought it was lovely. All the staff were friendly and polite, especially the guy at reception. The hotel is within walking distance to San Gimignano town so we could have a couple of drinks after dinner. We also loved the fact that breakfast was served in the garden. The hotel also has a pool and we had a swim when we got back in from sightseeing as it was very hot in July! We visited towns like Sienna, Lucca, Pisa, Volterra and many more little places and also did the Chianti Region. We went to the ´Brolio Winery´where they give you a tour of the castle and the factory after which you get to taste 3 different wines. We were lucky as we turned up just before 15.00 which was the last tour of the day. Sat Nav had difficulties finding the place as it tried sending us to another town called Brolio about 1 hour away, so perhaps better to check out their website before you leave, also about the exact times of the tours.
San Gimignano itself is very picturesque, we went to town every night for dinner and icecream. Also went to the 1300 Museum and the bell tower which had nice views of the city. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday!
