“Respite and convenience in Tuscany”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We choose this hotel in Tuscany because it was within walking distance to the term upside to know and do webpage views of the Violet are extraordinary. We were not disappointed. The accommodations were excellent and the personnel went out of their way to respond to our every need.

Compared to other hotels of this kind we were a little disappointed in the breakfast choices– especially the poor quality of the espresso.

Room Tip: choose a room with a view: otherwise you're wasting your money.

This hotel is perfect for visiting San Gimignano and the surrounding area. The staff are friendly, the breakfasts good and the rooms very comfortable. But it's the location which really makes it ideal - a 5-10 minute stroll from the main gate into San Gimignano and with parking which is the icing on the cake. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: A view of the Pool/ gardens would be nice but you'll spend so little time in you room it's n...

What makes this hotel beautiful are the views from your room & the location. The service from the front desk was fabulous too. We had a very lovely room over-lookng the beautiful Tuscan hillside. Breakfast buffet was a very nice variety with excellant cappucino. The rooms provided great space for luggage, unusual in Italy. Nice mini bar, we had to pay for wifi & that was spotty @ best. We were able to drive to Volterra & Sienna with ease from this hotel. An easy walk into San Gimignano for some shopping or a meal. The front desk arranged for a cooking lesson in a nearby town which was the highlight of our 10 day Italian vacation. Both restaurants that were recommended by the hotel were excellant! The minor downside? Felt like a little blast from the 1970's, but I think that is to be expected from the area. We felt very safe here.

The Relais Santa Chiara,is a beautiful place to expend your time in Tuscany. The views from de rooms to the landscapes of the region of San Gimignano are amazing. All parts of the hotel are carefully treated by the owners.
Very nice garden with a good pool with decks chairs ,surrounded by olive trees .The room was very good and quiet. The hotel serves only snaks and lunchs, because is situated 400mts of de the medieval city {ten minutes walking],where you can find many goods restaurants. The surprise is the charging for the web,an outdated practice, mainly in this kind of hotel. But if possible,I will return.

Room Tip: Pay a litle more and choise a room with pool view.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our mini honeymoon. The hotel was very clean and friendly, we stayed in a junior suite with views and the room was perfect, the only downside was that the rooms don't offer any coffee/tea facilities but this seems to be in all the hotels in Italy, I would imagine its because the coffee is so good in Italy that they would not want to offer instant in the rooms! The breakfast was lovely and the location perfect, it took about 5 minutes to walk to the beautiful San Gimignano which I fell in love with, and with the hotel being just outside the walls....you are away from the hustle and bustle so extremely peaceful. I honestly could not fault this hotel and would highly recommend it and would also most definitely return.

It would be tough to beat this one. The location (10 minute walk to the walled city of San Gimignano) and quality of rooms (very clean, ample room and well appointed) alone would make for a great hotel selection. The comon areas outside the hotel (an excellent pool and terrace with amazing countryside views) pushes the hotel into the Excellent category. The staff was firendly and the breakfast above average.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view of the countryside

We spent five great nights at Relais Santa Chiara, enjoying day trips to Siena, Volterra, Colle de val ..., Pisa and Lucca. Every night we returned to great comfort and enjoyed dining in San Gimignano where we felt almost like residents. Evenings there are magical after the day crowds leave. Staff at RSC were most helpful, breakfasts were our best in Italy. Views are great.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Relais Santa Chiara is a charming and elegant hotel located in the heart of the rolling hills of Tuscany, between Florence and Sienna. The hotel looks over the splendid, peaceful countryside towards Volterra and is situated just 400 mt. below the city walls of San Gimignano, a town of fairy tales with its 14 medieval towers that testify to a fascinating past. In addition, the strategic location allows one to make day trips to all the major cultural and artistic sites of the surrounding area. The hotel offers 40 rooms, made up of 4 different room types either facing the rear garden or facing the splendid Tuscan countryside. Many rooms have beautiful balconies and our superior rooms have bath with hydromassage. All rooms have air-conditioning, digital TV with international channels, hair dryers and mini-bar. Other services include private parking, a meeting room with a capacity up to 60 persons, Mediterranean garden filled with olive and cypress trees that encompass the swimming pool, which includes a separate, heated mini pool with hydro massage and an inviting and well stocked bar serving an array of beverages and a variety of snacks and light meals. The breakfast is a complete buffet that will certainly satisfy the biggest morning appetite. In the summer breakfast and bar service are available outside on the terrace. Particular attention has been given to the hotel’s furnishings. Some of the most prestige materials make up the guest rooms, such as brier wood and national oak. The public areas breath an atmosphere that’s classic Tuscany. Florentine terracotta covers the lobby which is integrated with a colorful pastel marble mosaic. The famous Serena gray stone is another dominate element found throughout the hotel, like the reception desk and the grand fireplace. Activities available nearby are: walking itineraries departing from the hotel, guided tours of the historic centre, scooter rental, wine tasting (come with light lunch), cooking classes, tennis, horse riding and a 27 hole golf course 18 km away. ... more   less
