“Great views: try going early”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We visited this location twice during our trip to San Gimignano. Once in the late afternoon and once in the morning around 8:00am. The light was completely different at both times and it's recommended getting up early to see the place with no one around. Everyone is goes to the overlook point next to the wine museum, but be sure not to miss walking into the small park with the olive trees and climbing the medieval steps up to a second, more hidden overlook. There, the view of the towers is spectacular and in the morning it's incredibly peaceful.

“Nice little place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Lovely little outdoor area with fantastic views , only a little walk from the Main Street but well worth a visit. If you are lucky someone may be playing a harp while you walk around, and a great little wine shop with the history of the local grapes.

“Spectacular View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

If you want to see Tuscany, this is the best place. There is a steep climb from the courtyard so make sure you have a good set of shoes. However, even an older group of people were able to climb with zero issues. Additionally, the city was putting on a medieval festival on 15 Jun which made for an awesome visit. I don't know if they do this every year, but it is definitely worth looking into...

“Good views and a quiet seat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Not much left of the fortress but the views are worth the climb and there are a few benches for a shady seat among the olive trees.

“Escape the crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

This was probably our highlight on visiting the town on a wet and windy Thursday. Our visit wasn't helped by the weather, but having the beautiful medieval town totally over run with 'white van men' and market stalls obliterating the view of the piazzas and buildings, plus bus loads of tourists and school parties, I would fully recommend an early morning or late afternoon visit to the town when they've all cleared off! But the walk to the Rocca down the quiet back alleys was lovely with wonderful views from the top, plus blissful peace and quiet - beware of visiting the town on market day (Thursday).
