A very pleasant city for a half day trip. We stayed there for several days and that was a mistake. Select a smaller city such as Lucca and either drive or take the train for addional day trips.

You don`t have to stay in Pisa for several days. You can visit it for a daytrip and see the famous tower.
It`s a very quiet city, we stayed there for 4 days, and not until the last evening we "found" some other people, who also was having dinner in the evening. (You`ll find them at the same side of the river as the tower, but walk towards the other bridge).
We stayed very near the train station, so it was practical to take a daytrip from Pisa. We went to Viareggio, a lovely town by the sea.

Pisa is only 25 minutes by train from Lucca.

We did pretty much what everyone said on the reviews. We went there, took our picture and back on the train to Lucca.

Pisa had a river with buildings surrounding it like Florence except run down.

I can't even say "if you are passing by, stop to see the Leaning Tower".

Venice has a church with a leaning town much nicer than this. If I had known that, I would not had wasted my 2 hours going to Pisa.

My favourite place in Italy

Travelled on a 3 night week-end using low frills airlines and stayed at the Grand Duomo Hotel for two nights and the Hotel terninus Plaza the 3rd night.
Great city to visit. Not big in size like Rome or Florence but enough to see and do for a week-end. Don't stick to the main streets with all the daytrippers from the cruise ships in nearby Livorno.
Very cheap place to eat and the house wine in a nice restaurant is only 8 euros a litre.
Go to Lucca on the train or even Florence is only 75 mins away.
Well worth a visit.

The Leaning Pisa

Magnificent in every way, Pisa served as a highlight of our trip in Italy. Seeing the Leaning Towers was a great experience, and the food there was excellent. Affordable hotels as well if you book early.
