“Not a good a-Roma”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Where to start. Horrid grouch of a receptionist, stinky jaded rooms, hard bed, hideous 1980s style common areas and well-below par breakfast. Only good thing is its handy location. Don't chose the 'Grand' Hotel Duomo either - its just as bad!

I stayed here for 2 nights, before and after visiting Florence, and I could also of course take in the leaning tower and the cathedral. On my final day, I visited the wonderful town of Lucca, which is only 30 minutes away on the train (both train station and airport are accessed by the LAM red bus, with a bus stop just a few paces from the hotel). This hotel is a lot nicer than it first seems from the outside. My single room was small but comfortable, and the breakfast room was quite pleasant (though the breakfast was minimal). The staff were friendly. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the location is fabulous, since it is very close to the leaning tower.

Great location - literally yards from leaning tower entrance. To be honest, was not expecting much from hotel because only three stars but there were a couple of things that are simply unacceptable. Firstly, the older gentleman receptionist is most unfriendly and brusque - don't care about cultural differences - just not on- he could hardly be bothered to make eye contact. Secondly, the table on which they place the towels was directly opposite the toilet. I was horrified to discover a brown splash on the table that could only be poo! I scrubbed it off with my anti bacterial gel! Bedside table also had a pubic hair and dust on it. Shower needs regrouting as it has black mould in it. On the positive side, friendly breakfast ladies and, as I said before great location.

If you want to be close to the leaning tower area this is the hotel. We could see the tower from our room, literally 2 minutes across the road. However it is about 25 minute walk from the railway station, we were really hot and bothered when we arrived. The room was booked for 4 people, we had one double bed, one single and a put-you-up bed which my youngest (13) slept on. Room was clean and air con worked by remote which was good. Bathroom was clean and tidy although there was some filler in the shower tiling etc. Shower was small and the door folded into it which made it tricky getting in and out. BEWARE - although we had paid for all our hotels in advance via a travel agent this hotel insisted that the extra bed had not been paid for and could not be paid via an agent in advance - charged us 30 euros for each night (luckily only stayed 2) for the extra bed. :( big time. Breakfast was very basic too, hot drinks, cereal, no fruit . Would not stay here again. There is a McDonalds across the road too!

Room Tip: you could try asking for one with a view of the tower as only some rooms face that way. beware of ex...

This hotel is in a great location, about 2 minutes from the Leaning Tower, and I could see it from my bedroom window. My room was quite small, and noisy, both from the road and from the toilet flushing and shower next door but it was not a big problem. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was a bit basic but adequate.

We were stuck in Pisa due to a train strike, so we decided to make the most of this opportunity and visit the learning tower of Pisa, as we arrived, it began to bucket down and we were tired and cold.

Hotel Roma was conveniently located, from the macdonalds/ leaning tower of Pisa, so we decided to stay over, which seemed to be the right thing to do...

Due to the fact that fellow TA users had given this hotel a rating of 18 out of 80 hotels available as well as a overall rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars...

€88 a night, the positives are as follows:-
The location is not bad (you probably don't really want to be in Pisa though)
Good shower - although a bit of mildew.

The negatives as follows:-
Rude doorman
Decor early 80's
No maintenance since early 80's
Dirty industrial carpet throughout the hotel.
Blind in room killed any sunlight.
Aircon noisy and didn't seem to work that well.
Breakfast was pretty bad, even though the servers were friendly and helpful - what looked like recycled corn flakes and bread in a packet, coffee was not good either.

Bottom line European standards are really bad if this is 3 star...
