This hotel is in a great location, about 2 minutes from the Leaning Tower, and I could see it from my bedroom window. My room was quite small, and noisy, both from the road and from the toilet flushing and shower next door but it was not a big problem. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was a bit basic but adequate.

We were stuck in Pisa due to a train strike, so we decided to make the most of this opportunity and visit the learning tower of Pisa, as we arrived, it began to bucket down and we were tired and cold.

Hotel Roma was conveniently located, from the macdonalds/ leaning tower of Pisa, so we decided to stay over, which seemed to be the right thing to do...

Due to the fact that fellow TA users had given this hotel a rating of 18 out of 80 hotels available as well as a overall rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars...

€88 a night, the positives are as follows:-
The location is not bad (you probably don't really want to be in Pisa though)
Good shower - although a bit of mildew.

The negatives as follows:-
Rude doorman
Decor early 80's
No maintenance since early 80's
Dirty industrial carpet throughout the hotel.
Blind in room killed any sunlight.
Aircon noisy and didn't seem to work that well.
Breakfast was pretty bad, even though the servers were friendly and helpful - what looked like recycled corn flakes and bread in a packet, coffee was not good either.

Bottom line European standards are really bad if this is 3 star...

Hotel Roma is literally just acroos the road from the Leaning Tower so some rooms offer views of the Leaning Tower or the Duomo. We were greeted very warmly and given a map of the area with a detailed explanantion of places to go and also to avoid at night! Rooms are basic but functional. We had a problem with the air conditioning and the guy on the desk had changed to one who didn't understand much English but we managed to get it resolved without too much difficulty. It nice to have the garden, especially the fact it was nice and shaded, as it was really hot when we were there. The bus stop from Pisa Centrale Train Station and the Airport is right next to the hotel. Would definitely recommend it.

Selected hotel because of it close location to the Duomo, Leaning Tower etc and stayed 2 nights. Staff helpful in providing advice about places to visit, places to eat and places to avoid. Comfortable lounge and small outside garden.
The room was adequate with cotton sheets on firm bed and air conditioning. The room was clean, however the carpet was rather grimy as it had seen better days.
The hotel faced onto busy street so was disturbed by traffic noise when the windows were open. The continental self-service breakfast was adequate. Very convenient for the attractions of central Pisa, 2 minutes walk to the Piazza del Duomo.

I booked this hotel because I only had 1 night in Pisa and wanted to be really close to the tower. I arrived in the evening and initially thought that maybe the manager/owner was not very friendly but realised it was just that he did not speak much English. My room was fine for what I needed. It had air conditioning and a large bathroom with a great shower. The Tower is literally round the corner so after checking in, I had time to go and take photos of the Tower etc and enjoy the atmosphere around it. In the morning, I had time to have breakfast, go on my booked trip up the tower and come back for my shower before setting off for my plane. To be so close to the tower, it was an absolutely great hotel for the price.

Room Tip: No swimming pool & didn't expect one so it wasn't terrible just can't change it...

This hotel is directly across the street from the Duomo and Leaning Tower (and tons of restaurants). Plus, the bus stop is right there, too. The desk staff is friendly, speaks English, and will give you a free map and help you with directions. I had the single room which was small (but well laid out) so there was plenty of room to walk/maneuver around since the single bed is against a corner of the room. The decor is not to my taste, but it was very clean (daily maid service). The AC was individually controlled with a remote and worked great. The flat screen TV was wall mounted, but all channels are Italian. However, there's an MTV music channel that's nice. There was lots of storage and closet space for your clothes and stuff. The bathroom shower was very small, but had plenty of hot water and was clean. The bathroom had storage shelves (medicine cabinet) so you could put your toiletries away behind a closed door. Breakfast is from 7 am - 9:30 am and consists of croissants, bread buns, plain yogurt, cereals, and bread spreads in little packages (butter, jelly, etc). (No fresh fruit). The servers were very friendly and make your coffee to order, however you like it (cappacino, expresso, cafe Americano, etc). There was also hot tea selections and a machine that dispensed orange juice. There was an elevator, and a huge lounge area with a big screen TV and plenty of couches and chairs. There's a PAM grocery store (big supermarket) within walkable distance from the hotel. It's down on the side street next to hotel, and around the bend through a parking lot - look for the green PAM signs with a little grocery cart as your guide. All the hotels charge a hotel tax of 1.5 EUR a day, on top of whatever you pay at booking, payable in cash at checkout. A taxi from the Pisa Centrale train station will run you 7 - 8 EUR, but there are buses that run frequently too. Recommended - be sure to do a day trip to the medieval city of Lucca (35 mins by bus). The bus stop is across street from hotel on the blue "VAI" buses. The Vai bus schedule is posted right at the stop, on its own sign, and you can buy tickets on board, or at the bar (look for martini shaped sign) a few doors down from the bus stop. Roundtrip to Lucca is 6 EUR. Not to be missed!
