Good location in terms of the train station (few minutes walk), airport (25 min walk?) and the main sights of Pisa. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. A good place to stay if you want to do a day trip out to Cinque Terre. I would advise against getting a shared bathroom as they were dirty and the water from the showers ended up all throughout the bathroom, leaving no where to put you clothes to avoid them getting wet. The rooms were average and the beds were extremely creaky and rickety, which woke you up when you rolled over (although comfortable enough). Breakfast wasn't anything flash - probably worthwhile going somewhere else for this. The wireless internet wasn't great either. Only recommend staying here if you don't want to spend much time in your room and don't get a shared bathroom.

Room Tip: Avoid the shared bathroom

It was easy walking distance from the train station (5 minutes), the airport (20 minutes) and centre of town so great location. 24 hour reception, very friendly staff and great breakfast included. No problems with room or communal shower. Would definitely recommend.

This hotel is in a very good location. We booked a triple room even though there was only the two of us, as we booked only a few weeks before La Luminara di San Ranieri (which is a great festival of lights held once a year. If you get a chance to do that DO IT!.) Accommodation was pretty scarce for a twin room so we paid the few extra euro.

When we arrived in our room it smelled slightly of cigarette smoke and I later noticed an ashtray, being a non smoker this wasn't a hugely pleasant thing but was not over bearing. The beds were fairly comfortable. The internet access was fairly intermittent and I was really only able to access it down in the reception area.

I know most people don't go to Italy for a sumptuous breakfast but the breakfast here was the worst I have had in my travels through Italy. The bread was stale and the slice/cake that they provided was the same. Everything was pre packaged and very processed. If I were to stay again I would skip the breakfast and go somewhere else.

Overall it provided a good nights sleep for a reasonable price. Stay here if you are not interested in spending time in the room other than sleep.

We were flying in late to Pisa and were leaving in the afternoon the next day so decided the Hotel Moderno - just a 200m walk from the main Pisa rail station - would be worth a try. Did not need a romantic hotel with view or proximity to the leaning tower so this was a very suitable choice. We booked on line and paid E70 for our double including (European style) breakfast that met our needs without being anything to write home about - fruit, juice, sweet tart, different kinds of breads, spreads, cereal, milk, tea/coffeee. Room was roomy, clean and comfortable bed/pillow. Staff very helpful with information and maps etc. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to the budget traveler spending the night in Pisa. Safe to walk at night from the hotel to the leaning tower site or main eating area. Plenty of cheap eat options around the train station. Easy walk (2 km - 30 minutes) up to the main tourist site. Recommend the walk so you can see more of Pisa than just the leaning tower complex. Also recommend you stay the night (if time permits) so you can get to the sights before the trillions of tourists. The train from airport to main station is cheap and very short in duration as the airport is very close to town.

This is an affordable hotel ideal for a short stay.
Perfect location for the train station - just a short walk away, but 30 minute walk to the leaning tower.
Rooms are clean but are out dated. The hotel staff are friendly and the shared bathrooms are cleaned regularly.

We stayed at Hotel Moderno for one night at the beginning and end of our trip around Italy as we flew in and out of Pisa. This hotel is in a great location (5 minute walk from Pisa train station which can be done with luggage, 7€ taxi ride from the airport, and a 20 minute walk to the leaning tower.
The hotel itself wasn't much for the eyes. It was dark and smelled slightly of cigarette smoke. It was clean, however, but because it is so outdated it didn't feel overly comfortable. The room was a moderate size with a larget un attacehd closet. The bathroom was fair.
The breakfast was modest compared to many other hotels we stayed at, but acceptable.
I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The older lady that people have complained about seemed nice to me. There was just a bit of a language barrier but she tried hard to help us despite this.
The wifi is free but does not work well in the rooms. You often have to go sit on the stairs in the really dark hallway. You have to ask for the password often as well as they only give you 3 hour intervals at a time.
In conclusion, Iwould recommend this hotel for a budget friendly overnight if you are flying into pisa and need somewhere to stay for one night. This is not the place to stay for a long period of time, howeve.

A perfect location hotel , close to airport & even closer to train station. A good 30 minute walk to Pisa Tower, And what a sight it is . Also convenient to go to Florence. A friendly run Hotel, and very courteous staff. Only one negative remark, a strong smell of cigarette odor in our room. we did booked a non smoking room.
