“Nice hotel in central Pisa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

just back from a four night stay at Hotel Leonardo. Check in was very quick. Staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. One girl in particular was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Her name was Annalisa. She couldn't do enough for you.

The room was large, with tv and minifridge which was empty but was great to keep beer cold etc. Rooms made up and towels changed every day. No problems there. While taking showers the water now and then went from hot to cold. Some people might find this annoying.
We didn't have a balcony and no great views on a narrow street. But that didn't bother us as we were out all day.

Breakfast was included in the price and it was perfect. Everything you would want. Cereals, juices, yougurt. Brown and white bread. Toasted breads in packages and crackers. Plenty cheeses and meats. A large selection of different teas and if you have a sweet tooth plenty of buns. You just couldn't fault it in any way. Only thing it finished at 9,30 sharp which in my opinion was too early. Also checkout is at 10.30. Never before had a check out that early anywhere. I did ask Annalisa if we could extend but the hotel was busy but she very kindly let us stay until 11.30 which we did appreciate. There is a luggage room.

Because Pisa is on the River Arno the mosquitos were awful. We got bitten alive. There was an airfresher type thing in the room to kill them off but we didn't plug it in when we arrived as we didn't know that it was to prevent mosquitos!!! Can't blame anyone for the mosquitos but best to be aware and buy the sprays in time.

Pisa is a lovely friendly city but you need to shop around for eats and drinks, as if you are not careful you will get ripped off. On the way to hotel we stopped off at an ordinary bar/cafe (nothing special at all about it). We got a small glass of wine and a medium beer and were charged €12 euro for that. That was Caffetteria Danitesca, Piazza Dante. Needless to say we didn't go back. We discoved bars that sold large glasses of wine and a bottle of beer from between €4.50 to €5.50, a massive difference. Many places do a tourist menu which included a drink. So if you are on a budget watch out. There is no bar in the hotel but you can get beers for €2 and small bottle of water for €1 and soft drinks from a fridge at reception.

Travelled to Florence on the train, €7.80 each, each way and only took one hour. Also went to Lucca which is beautiful also travelled to Laverno. Lucca was the best of our trips. A. Farrell

Service:
The service was very friendly and helpful. The reception staff spoke good English and were very welcoming.

Hotel and Location:
Good location, quick walk to the tower, the main street and the station. We walked everywhere, and it was all fairly easy to find. The hotel didn't have beautiful views, in fact our room view was of a wall and someone else's window.
The building is very abstract, stairs up and down, corridors off to the side and then down again, a little maze, which is lovely and bought a lot of character to the place.

Food:
We only ate breakfast in the hotel (not too sure if they offer any other meals), the breakfast was included and was quite average. The orange juice was not orange juice, possibly berroca? It had the same fizzy look.
There was a selection of croissants, cereals, breads, cold meats, chesses, tinned fruit, yoghurt and jams. An abundance of offerings. But all were pre-packaged wrapped and felt lack of care and consideration. But very good for the purpose, and definitely filled me up until lunch time.

The room:
So the room was lacking a little. It was spacious and we had a large double bed. But again the attention to detail and care seemed to be lacking. The fridge was a stand alone fridge plugged into the wall. There were no side lamps, only one strong ceiling light, the sheets were quite thin and there were only two flat pillows.

Overall:
It was a nice place to stay for the night, it had some attention to details that would make a huge difference (lamps and pillows mainly!). I wouldn't opt to spend a weeks holiday there however. It was what i expected for the low price we paid.

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years. We appreciate the location in the central part of Pisa, close to everywhere, sights, restaurants, shops.. And we appreciate the friendly and helpful staff there. That`s why we continue to stay there, despite noticing that some renovation now would be appropriate. Especially the carpets look (and smell) like they have been around since the building was new....... they really need to be changed soon.
Anyway we would stay there again for the other reasons mentioned!

Location is good and the staff are generally helpful. We paid around E70 per night when most of the competition wanted E90 or more. Some people seem to be choked about paying for wifi but E6 for unlimited wifi for 3 days is not that bad (it is a bit of a rigamarole constantly signing in and out and "recharging" via the coded cards they give you, but signal strength was good).

The main thing about this place is street noise, especially if you like to have the windows open for more fresh air. The neighboring streets are narrow and act like kind of an echo chamber. You absolutely must have silicone ear plugs if street noise bothers you. We found no issues regarding noise from adjoining rooms.

I stayed just for 2 days in one of the less visited towns of Tuscany. Although the Torre Pendente is THE symbol for Italy, Pisa is a bit off the beaten tracks of Tuscany. The Lenonardo hotel is a small 3 star hotel that I chose mostly for the location just minutes away from the highlights of Pisa (Cathedral and Tower, Piazza dei Cavallieri and the arcades of the historic center.

The rooms are relatively small (in particular the bath rooms), but clean and functional. Breakfast is surprisingly good and staff is very friendly and helpful. WiFi is for purchase (6 EUR a day, but is fast and works very well). The price is more than affordable in comparison to other places.

I would recommend this lovely place to everyone who wants to enjoy one or more days in Pisa.

I stayed here for 5 nights in Nov/Dec 12, it is situated 2 minutes from the river and less than 10 mins from the Tower. There are lots of small bars, cafes and restaurant's close by. Very friendly staff, very clean and decent size rooms with air con. very quite except for the odd few students going home after a night out. I would definitely stay here on my next visit, but I may have to ask about car parking if I hire a car next time.
