“Needs investment..”

I think all are in agreement that this place has charm to spare, at least structurally, a real beautiful old building with a splendid view of the brown waters of the Arno flowing past as you gaze from the front windows. Taxi from Pisa airport was 11e, and hotel only a few minutes walk from the tower, we stayed just the one night on our way to Montecatini. The girls on reception are cheerful and very friendly, and more than willing to share the hotel's past with those who enquire. However, some of the fixtures and fittings are poor to say the least. I felt a bit of a misery guts taking some pictures to that end, but I was disappointed at what I saw. Heavily stained furniture, sink partially detached from the bathroom wall, sticking plaster holding the battery cover on the tv remote, handles hanging off drawers to name but a few of the problems. I can't understand why the owners don't invest a few bob. Room size wasn't too bad, bed was creaky but comfy, and breakfast was the usual Italian affair, bread and slices of cheese and ham etc, nothing cooked but plenty of other stuff in wrappers or packets. But beware, if you book a room with a view at the front of the hotel as we did, the walls of the river bank on the street outside serve as a meeting place for a large number of Pisa's youth to gather on Saturday nights for a couple of hours either side of midnight, even with the window closed the racket they make will demand snugly fitting ear plugs and maybe a significant amount of alcohol as a minimum if you sleep lightly. Both worked for me.

Room Tip: Avoid river views if you want some kip at the weekend.

I loved everything about this hotel, it looked like it was once a very grand hotel, and they have kept the whole place very classic.
Our hotel room was lovely, large enough for two, with air conditioning and throughout the day they offer different things, like early breakfast, breakfast (which is FAB!) and evening drinks and snacks which you can enjoy in the main hotel room or on the GORGEOUS terrace.
The hotel has so much history and was fantastic to explore, and the staff were so polite and friendly. Thank you for a lovely stay Royal Victoria Hotel!!

I arrived here for a conference with a 4 day pre-paid booking. Unfortunately it turned out that the hotel had double booked my room. After an hours stressful wait I was put up in another hotel the other side of town in quite a seedy area for one night only with no promise of any further accommodation. I then dragged my bags back to the royal victoria to find out if they had a room for me for the rest of my stay. They didn't, I was moved to yet another "equivalent" hotel which turned out to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in (see my review). The whole experience has left me with a terrible memory of Pisa - a city to which I will never return.

Room Tip: Try and go for one that they haven't double booked.

My mother and I were not sure whether to book a modern or traditional hotel. We decided that a traditional hotel would give us more of an Italian experience. The Royal Victoria Hotel did not disappoint. Steeped in history, going back to the 11th century, not spoilt with renovation.
The hotel was clean and the breakfast great value, but what made our stay was the staff, they looked after us and became friends.

This hotel must once have been really spectacular as evidenced by its list of royal visits. While its now somewhat faded from its former glories it exhibits the sort of shabby chic that typifies the old Tuscan palazzos that have become hotels. While the car park is a bit of a nightnare to get to, the staff are lovely and very helpful and we had a huge room overlooking the Arno, although the tendency of students to mass on the river wall below until the early hours made it a little noisy.
Breakfast was disappointing with little of substance but overall its nicely situated, particularly if you want to go south of the river to see the real Pisa, instead of just the tourist fleecing operation that is the Campo dei Miracali.

After booking this hotel last March, on Booking.com (so theoretically your room is guaranteed), we arrived and were told they'd overbooked. Incredibly breezily and unapologetically they shipped us off by taxi to a tiny place, who charged us exactly the same amount.. Nearly a hundred euros for a very basic room. The staff were absolutely dreadful at the Hotel Royal Victoria.. The people arriving immediately after us had only booked the day before but had paid in advance got a room. So I guess the message is for this hotel if you want to stay here, pay in advance .. Though who knows if even then you'll get a room.

We stayed in The Royal Victoria for a week, the duration of our holiday. The building itself was nice, original floors and features ect, however we were disappointed with our room. We arrived late in the night and were given our keys, the person on the desk didn't speak any English which was a little difficult and when we made it to our room it was very dark, even with all of the lights on! It was a very basic room with plug sockets that we were vary wary of touching, hanging off the walls! The 'double bed' was also two single beds pushed together which kept sliding apart and were very creaky.

We spent most of our week out and about so it didn't matter much, apart from the noise! our room was on the side of an ally way which was loud with the bars open into the night, then in the morning we were woken up very early to the sound of either people throwing up, or the streets being cleaned with a pressure washer! It was also very very hot with just a fan and no air- con.

The breakfast was nice and had a fair amount of choice. The roof terrace was a good place to sit, but not much of a view. We didn't pay alot for our accommodation so i suppose you get what you pay for! Good for somewhere to stop but no luxury in sight!

Also the wi-fi only works downstairs!

Room Tip: If you want a nice room, don't buy economy!
