“Charming stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We got the name for this hotel from Rick Steve’s Italy book. We loved the room, it was full of character and the furniture wasn’t the prefab furniture of a chain hotel it was classic 1940 or 1950’s. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The window looked out on the river, and we arrived the day after a festival had started so we were able to enjoy a traditional boat race form our balcony. The staff was helpful and kind and wonderful ambassadors for Pisa and Italy.

Not much more to be added to recent reviews....lovely old hotel....friendly and helpful staff....nice breakfast....great location......BUT.....bathroom in particular was badly in need of some TLC...don't get me wrong, everything was clean and everything worked, it just didn't look nice...'archaic' comes to mind!
We had a room facing the river, with a balcony, and it was noisy, but hey you're in a city what do you expect, definitely worth it for the view!...and no upvc windows here, just ancient old wooden shutters and doors...the lovely roof terrace seemed greatly underused, we used it a couple of times and were undisturbed, shame, as it is a great space.
All in all a really old, atmospheric, hotel....we would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: riverside rooms are noisy but give a great view of the Arno.

Great location right on the Arno River
Hundreds of years old, it's charming and a relative value in terms of the common areas and the breakfast is quite nice.

HOWEVER, the bathroom situation is borderline horrifying. There are at least a dozen rooms per floor, but only 1 tiny basic toilet per floor. No mirror, no soap, one roll of TP, and it's not easy to find either. I was grateful that the other people on my floor either didn't use the bathroom or left it relatively clean. I was also grateful that I only stayed here one night.

My single room was small and spartan, with no view. I could hear interesting conversations in Italian from the alleyway outside. My neighbors in the next room were so close, and left their door open so often (no A/C), that I thought they wanted me to have a menage a' trois.

Also, there is apparently only one shower area for the ENTIRE hotel, which is maybe 10 floors. I chose not to check this out for myself.

Otherwise, very nice.

Room Tip: Ask about A/C, views, bathroom location before settling on your room. Watch how much you pay for wh...

I've had two good stays on my own in this hotel so when planning our family holiday to Tuscany I thought this would be ideal for us. For two adults and one 10 year old I booked a triple room for 77 euros. It had en-suite facilities and air-con included which in my opinion was great value. Breakfast the next morning was again plentiful, though the hot chocolate they served was a bit like a jug of custard. Must take note to just have coffee next time ! Daughter loved the big staircases and husband liked all the memorabilia in the public rooms , though he would prefer something a bit more luxurious for a longer stay.

Room Tip: Book well ahead to get the best price for the room you want

This hotel mantains the originality of its origins circa 1800, with a few amenities adaptions from the 1960's. it has its charm and it has picturesque location overlooking the Arno River. the Arno riverside is a lively active place at night. If not knowing the details one could be disappointed for the luck of up to date amenities.the concierge (family owned and run) were very truthfull and open about their establishmnet, and offered a sincere hospitality.

We stayed 4 nights in this delightful hotel. If you love slick looking hotels with all mod cons then this is not the place for you. The Royal Victoria has been owned by the same family since about 1840 and retains that wonderful authentic Italian charm I remember from childhood visits to Italy. It features the most amazing staircase and antiques with a beautiful roof top garden. We were upgraded on arrival to a room with a view of the tower. To me the decor fitted the style of the hotel. Wonderfully spacious bedroom with small on suite bathroom. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Situated on the river Arno their are nearby cafes and shops. The market square transforms at night to a meeting place to eat, drink and of course treat yourself to ice cream! The tower is about a 10 min walk from the hotel.
I would definitely recommend this charming hotel - we booked direct with them and there was no problem. Don't forget you will pay room tax.

Room Tip: Book a room overlooking the old courtyard to get a tower view.

Stayed here on two occasions as we were flying into and out of Pisa airport. We got a very good rate by booking directly with the hotel and agree that the hotel in places is a little tired and jaded. However it has great character and all of the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. Our first room was a small double and we did get the noise from the nearby bar. The second room was higher up, larger and very comfortable.Breakfast was very good. We got what we had paid for and would return here again.
