The hotel is situated over looking the River Arno. Easy walk to the main shopping area and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Parts of the Hotel date back to the 10th & 14th Century. Family owned with the 5th generation owner still working in the Hotel. The staff were all extremely helpful and pleasant. The owner took great pride in telling us about the Hotel. We were a little disappointed with our room as it did not look anything like photos on the website. We were informed that they are updating more rooms. And our room was an Economy room! The rooms are exceptionally warm (not a problem for me!!) Continental breakfast was plentiful. Although with their connections to the UK maybe some scrambled egg for breakfast would have made a change.!! Lots of old historical photos to look at.

The hotel is centrally located overlooking River Arno & it's full of history! It is clean, rooms are warm & a continental breakfast. We were impressed by the friendly staff who gave us a very warm welcome & were so helpful throughout our stay. A special thanks goes to Michele who was so kind to us & helpful. Thank you for kindly explaining the place's history, was much appreciated! The only suggestion we make is that it should be treated to a restoration asap cause its really such a pity to let such a historical place not show its true glory.

We have planned to go for a holiday in Pisa Italy and was going thru the trip advisor to search some good position hotel with reasonable prices. I found the Royal Victoria hotel, a 3 star hotel exactly facing the river Arno'. As we went in, the receptionist Michele was very cordial and asked us to fill in the related accommodation documents. We were shown to our room, got the lift to the third floor, room number 308. It was an inside room with a window letting to a side road, so we hadn't any view, obviously we didn't pay for a view room so I knew what I was going for.

The room's furniture is not that modern or new, but it goes with the ambient of the hotel's character, a hotel rich of history which hosted important people, such as the Rockefeller, a Royal Princess and lots of distinctive personalities. The rooms are central heated with bathroom having a shower (shower gell supplied), bidet and a toilet. We had a twin bed, having a TV and also WiFi commodity to use free of charge.
In the morning, going down to the 1st floor, we found the breakfast hall, were a very good full filling breakfast is served by 2 polite and friendly waitresses. Breakfast consisted with fresh cake portions, croissants, nutella tubs, cheese, salami, ham , fresh bread, tea and coffee (Americano, espresso or flavoured tea and normal tea with milk, juices and yogurt. Well what else do you want for a breakfast, also knowing it's a buffet breakfast, eat as much as you want.

Every evening when returning back from our excursion, Mentioning our friendly receptionist, Michele the great man used to help us a lot with doing all the necessary printing papers we needed to follow when going to discover Pisa , Florence and Lucca. He couldn't go more out of his way to help us out. Apart he speaks perfect English and Spanish apart his home Italian language. Well we couldn't be served more than we were.

I highly recommend this hotel to all Maltese people who are visiting Pisa to book with this hotel. MY rate for this hotel is a 5 stars for the service we got, which actually is a 3 star hotel. Michele, hope we meet soon again, which I promise I will re book this hotel, especially for the help and cardinality you given us. Many thanks Malcolm and Marligia - Malta.

This is an interesting old style hotel and yes the décor is old and maybe a bit tired but I thought this added to it's charm. Our room was large and comfortable and we had a great view of the river with plenty of sunlight. The breakfast was plentiful and very nice with a variety of foods to select from. Al the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and overall we had a lovely couple of days and would certainly stay at this hotel again.

We knew from the reviews and pictures that the hotel was something of a faded beauty, so were prepared for that. However, there were more surprises.

- We'd been told that we'd be staying in the large family room shown on the website, but when we arrived, we were shown to another room. The largest room is reserved for Father Christmas over the festive season, we were told. We were there on New Year's Eve. We'd been getting our children bought into the whole experience of staying somewhere "with atmosphere", so this was a let down.

- The room we were given was certainly big, but there were visible gaps in the woodwork of the balcony doors, letting in freezing drafts. Some of the plumbing in the bathroom was only just attached to the wall, and the general level of decor really was more than tired. We complained and all the staff could do was apply parcel tape and masking tape over the gaps - they were as helpful as they could be in the circumstances, but there were no other rooms and this one wasn't really suitable for a family to stay in in mid-winter. Had it been raining heavily or snowing this room would be unbearable.

- The sofa was set up as a single bed, which wasn't a problem until on closer inspection the sofa back was stuffed with probably horsehair, so not ideal for those with asthma.

Anyway, we made the best of it, enjoyed the unparalleled view of the New Year's Eve fireworks over the river which we were granted out of the window. The breakfast was plentiful and good quality and the staff were happy and polite.

When I came to check out, we were given €10 off the bill - which was 10% off, but it didn't really make up for it all. It is an eccentric and charming hotel, however that is no excuse for simple property maintenance not to be undertaken.

I stayed in this enigmatic hotel as an overnight as a haven of rest following an extremely late arrival in Pisa following a redirected flight that landed in Milan instead of Pisa followwd by a four hour road journey.
I was greeted cordially by the night clerk and ushered to a most elegant room . This was reached by passing through corridors of discernment and refinement usualy found in much more expensive and exclusive establishments!
Nothing was too much trouble and my forlorn request for sustenance was greeted with a promise to provide a meal at this late hour. As a vegetarian I thought I woould be offered little of note but, to my amazement, I received an elegant salad with half a bottle of fine chianti!
The hotel is on the banks of the rbno river and is only a short walk to the Piazza del Miracoli where the famed leaning tower stands (defying gravity it seems!!).
I arrived there quite early in the morning (sleep was difficult due to my quite dreadful journey the day before) and was greeted by armed soldiers and carabinieri who, contrary to expecttions were kind and cordial in their greeting!
Returning to the hotel, I was given breakfast and a friendly account of the history of the hotel.
The staff could not have been more welcoming and hospitable throughout my brief stay.
I was given precise instructions on the best route to the Train Station and, being of advancing years, was found a taxi to accommodate my needs to carry heavy luggage.
One quite interesting, instructive and, I hope, humorous anecdote.
If you are in room seven be prepared to be presented with a puzzle regarding the door lock. The secret is that one must insert the key with the gentleness and dexterity of a surgeon and be prepared to manoeuvre the key, delicately, for quite some time - on both entry and exit. I informed the desk and was informed that the whole series of locks were to be changed "soon".
I would need sime more precise time frame as the decor seems unchanged from the days of Queen Victoria!
In summary, an ideal and economic hotel for a few days visit to Pisa - an interesting city.
I miei ringraziamenti a tutto il personale e le loro molte gentilezze.
Graham Harris
